I actually just came across your post as I was searching for reviews for CSP. I purchase the exact breed you mentioned from CSP, Olive Eggers, FBCM, Welsummers and OE. My OE and Welsummers are laying the tiniest of eggs I mean pullet sized for the past 2 months. No change in size at all. They...
In my group of 40 I had 9 Roosters, I began having stress issues among my hens and was able to rehome 8 of them. My older hens began laying like crazy a week after. In all honesty the one Rooster I kept was a Welsummer that is a complete gentleman so far but I had doubts about keeping him. I...
Of the four hens and 1 rooster I have in my mixed flock they all have a great temperament. My rooster at 20 weeks is already alerting to danger and caring for the flock. He is not aggressive either like some of my other roosters of the same age. Then hens are very well tempered and are able to...
Back in March I purchased a strait run of FBCM from a reputable breeder. I had never had roosters before so I have no experience with behaviors. In the end my straight run had 9 roosters. I tried to give away some of them with no success. In the end I resigned myself to attempting to handle them...
As a result of getting a straight run from Chicken Scratch Poultry I have managed to get quite a few Cockerels from my last purchase. I am now trying to decide who to keep and who must go. My question for those of you raising Olive Eggers is should I keep Olive Egger Roos or the FBCM Roos? It's...
I currently have several Olive Eggers and they are one of the most difficult to sex due to no wattles. My Avitar is my Oliver Egger Cockerel name Oliver(quite boring I know). For me the rows and redness of the combs was my biggest clue. In this pic he is 8 weeks old. I am still having a hard...
I am in Alabama and have temperature within the same range. We call our weather Bipolar since it can change from week to week. I can tell you that my Polish are not a breed I would recommend as they aren't great in cold. All the other breeds I have are both cold and hot. I have a mixed flock of...
Many thanks for the information Keith! I think I have the perfect hens in my flock in mind to take care of them. They are currently 9 weeks and I am in their pen constantly trying to get them used to me. I only have one that is a pain already. The others are offish but they don't peck at me when...
Can any of you who have BCM Roo's give me details on their temperament? I have three that I received from Chicken Scratch Poultry and am praying that they blend in with my flock without issue. I have 18 hens (mixed flock) that are a year old with 3 hens that are 2 years old. One of the BCM...
I have recently purchased some FBCM and am interested in how many eggs you're getting per week for each hen. I have three other 1 year old Marans, Splash, Blue Copper, and Cookoo and am getting around 3 per hen each week.
Absolutely beautiful color! How many hens do you have? I currently have 3 Blue Copper, Splash, Cookoo that are 1 and 5 8 week Black Copper. I can't wait to see if I get color like that!

Hi Lauren,
Welcome to BYC I know that you will find the community just as helpful as I have. I wish you good hatching from your incubator, it's a step that I haven't taken yet after three years of raising chickens. It's on my bucket list to get a incubator. I currently have 37 hens and with...
I have had two broken beaks one just as bad as your hens and it regenerated. In the meantime you have to make sure she is able to eat and drink. I provided mine with a deep feeding bucket so she could easily fill her beak. My other hen is a cross beak and although we have trimmed her with a nail...
I am looking to rehome several FBCM cockerels 8 weeks old, as well as several Olive Egger Roosters. I received a few too many from my last straight run order with the amount of hens I have. These all came from Chicken Scratch Poultry in Illinois and are some very handsome Roos. If anyone in the...
Hi All, After hearing about a fellow chicken addict having issues with hens with no feathers on her back, I began looking at how to prevent this after discovering I have way too many roos in my last purchase. I came across a post about using a hot potato to remove the outer shell if you are one...
Now that I see the pics I see three rows on that comb but the feather coloring tells me something different. Do you know what cross you have? Generally OE hens are the more dull brown coloring which this chick has but the comb seems to be pretty fleshy with the start of three rows.
