Okay, thanks for that.
Years ago, when my family had chicken, we'd kill then let them hang for 24 hours, but no problems. I shall have to reexamine this :)
Next time I do it, I'll take your advice.
I haven't seen any black penedesenca farms et. We''ve got plenty of things going on on our...
So, on sunday we killed two cockerels, then let them hang until today when I butchered them.
First strange thing was that they had green bits around the back end, what is that? (I just cut it off). Another was that one had bad lungs, the other had perfect pink lungs.
We then boiled it but it...
I have this White Leghorn cross, but not sure of its gender.
It's 12 weeks old.
I've been reading here that since they have big combs, comb size isn't always reliable. Would the wattles be that big on a pullet? And the tail, there's a slight pointy-curvy going on, does that mean anything at this...
So I have four 12 week birds, and though I see signs, I'm still not entirely sure about gender. Some help wioth breed might be nice, but not necessary. :)
They were the chicks I showed here.
For reference here's who they are now and who they were:
"Penedesenca Barrada" = "Larger black one"...

Yesterday I had a surprise egg... from my 9 year old! Twig's the only EE to lay blue eggs, and I found a really small one. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't have a yolk.
I think I may have been the las person to ask that myself. :)
Eggs/laying hens/total hens (+pullets)
Although my extra three are old ones that don't lay much.

Okay, that looks a bit weird, but there's a good reason for this: I didn't collect the eggs one day. But an average of six per day is quite good for my chooks.
I haven't realy noticed if it affects them. Perhaps, since garlic is supposed to be a natural deterent.
Vegetable oil, like sunflower or olive.
What do you mean by stable? Like chemically?

Usual suspects, again. The recovered broodies are waiting to surprise me.
For purposes of counting I'm "retiring" three that don't lay much, but when they do it'll be a bonus :)
For the garlic water I put a clove in water in sprayer, leave it for little while and then spray inside, especially around the nests and perches. I must remember to take a clove with tomorrow.
I have a question: I've used cooking oil straight from the bottle to cure leg mite, but would anyone...
