I know every once in a while, especially after introducing new chickens to the coop there is some little fights between the girls and there is some feather pulling in order to establish a pecking order. Feather loss is always weird because it can be bullying, self-cannibalism, mites, or an...
Yes you use a weak strength Advil (i have talked with my vet about this in the past). After a couple of days of the Advil I noticed she wasn't twisting her neck as much but I had to stop it for a couple of days because I ran out. Another thing I noticed was that she hasn't laid an egg yet, while...
So a little while ago one of my hens had a wing that was drooping and she did NOT like you messing with it, i diagnosed it as a sprained wing. I pulled her from the coop and wrapped her wing. In the next couple of days she started twisting her neck around and tilting her head and she wouldn't...
Well, I'm no expert, but I can try and help. So bumblefoot usually affect older heavier birds who are outside, so I want to rule that out first. What it sounds like is either he has lost circulation on those toes so they are dying off. OR that they never fully developed in the egg and they are...
SOOO hears the story, I have a little bantam frizzle I rescued from a bad situation. He is having some respiratory issues (among all the others) so I pulled out my handy-dandy oxytetracycline and mixed it up like I do for my girls and gave it to him. Flash forward 3 hours and the thought strikes...
I have talked to my vet and she has said to follow up the Wazine with Safe-Guard, since Roundworms are the ones I have. I am pretty sure it was heat stroke (that's the leading cause of death in my flock), her body temperature was WAY higher than it should be. She passed away recently, there was...
So in the lovely state of Arizona, the summers are brutal (I'm talking over 110 on a regular basis). Because of this heat, chickens don't always do to well and one recently went down with heat stroke. While we were attempting to get her better, we noticed she had worms. I don't usually worm my...
If its not bleeding that bad, I wouldn't worry too much. I'd just keep an eye on it to see if the others start pecking it. my rule of thumb on wounds is always put Vetricyn on it. If its just a small scratch, I wouldn't worry though
In the future, if you do other livestock (or just poultry). ALWAYS keep a bottle of that stuff handy, it's the liquid gold of the show world! Works on all livestock
I suggest putting some Vetricyn on it (whatever's in that blue bottle is magic) I had a similar issue and it cleared it up. I would separate her from the others so they don't pick and make it worse. Best of luck!
