Yes, my chicken door is closed from dusk til dawn. I'll have to figure out how to close off gaps with hardware cloth. The coop is made of corrugated siding, so there are some small gaps.
Help!! I have lost 3 juvenile pullets to snakes while they are sleeping in the coop. I have found them dead on the floor, with their head and neck feathers wet. Apparently the snake tried to swallow them and discovered they were too big so it had to regurgitate the chick. I totally cleaned...
This hen is a few years old. She is acting strangely, sits in the same place, doesn't move around much, has watery diahrea, Her head is constantly bobbing up and down. She acts as if she is snapping at invisible flies. She has no respiratory problems that I can discern, no sneezing, or...
Sadly, we thought it best to end her suffering. It could have been fowl pox, but the size of the bumps looked larger than the pictures I saw. Thanks for answering. Do fowl pox lesions start from within the tissues as a bump and then grow outward to the skin, or do they start on top of the...
Hen was lethargic, and sleepy. Her feet were covered with pea sized nodules, some were brownish. Some were scraped and bleeding, perhaps she pecked at them? She also had some small bumps within her wattles. No discharge from nostrils or eyes or mouth. Any idea what this might be?
I have a Delaware rooster , one year old. Does anyone know why his comb woud somedays be uniformly red and other days it seems to be turning dark at the tips? I live in Texas, so frostbite is not a problem.
I just washed my cochin hen and discovered a little walnut sized bag about and inch or two down from her vent. It looked like maybe filled with yellow fat??? Could it be fat deposits? Am I feeding her too much scratch? Should I restrict her intake?
Thanks for your reply, Faykokowv. Her hock doesn't feel hot, just warm. I don't have an avian vet near. I've pretty much just let her deal with it, thinking if it was broken it would self mend. As long as she is eating and hopping around I guess I will let her be. But I am keeping her...
Please help! My pullet is 7 months old and several weeks ago she injured her leg. I think she broke it, but not a compound fracture. She just sort of hops on one leg and uses the injured one to step lightly on. The joint after the foot is swollen and feels warm. But she still eats, poops...
My Delaware rooster has spots of feather loss, on his throat, rump, and small patches on both wings. Underneath is bright red skin. I think that some of the hens are picking at him. I have treated for lice and mites, and cleaned out the coop, and have put blue kote on, but I don't know what...
