Winter and Summer Watering system w/ waterer nipples and heater.

I have now gone through 2 winters. It has been great not having to tote water every day. The water lasts about a month. I have my outside water spigots turned off for the winter. To re-fill, I place 5 gallon containers of water on my truck bed and back up to the coop. This is easier than...

Winter and Summer Watering system w/ waterer nipples and heater.

I winterized the coop today and finally took a couple of photos. This is the heater and pump inside of the 20 gallon tank. You can also see the low level float switch installed to the left in the photo.

The Great Chicken Door Debate - show us your chicken doors!

Here is my DIY automatic coop door. I already had been using this door manually for about five years. I would open and close it manually using a rope and pulleys. This allowed us to work the door without having to step inside the coop. I just modified it to open using a 12VDC surplus gear motor...

    Keeping ducks drinking water clean......how?

I made a duck waterer from a 5 gallon bucket. I cut openings for them to place their heads inside to drink. I have a float valve to maintain the water level. I feed it by gravity from a 5 gallon jug. I plan on a bigger supply container in the future. My first attempts were using a vacuum feed...

Winter and Summer Watering system w/ waterer nipples and heater.

The photo was taken before the hose was attached to the pump. The pipe is 3/4". I am using a 250 watt bucket deicer. I may add a thermo cube to only run below 35 degrees. I did not get to try it in the really cold weather. It has been above 12 degrees since I set it up this way. The radiant...

Winter and Summer Watering system w/ waterer nipples and heater.

The water pump lifts water from inside the igloo and sends it through a hose into the top valve and back feeds it through the nipple pipe and back up into the igloo making a full loop. I live in Northwest Indiana where we have cold winters. The item on the right of the igloo is an oil filled...

Winter and Summer Watering system w/ waterer nipples and heater.

Here is my watering setup. I can flush the 10 gallon igloo tank to the outside drain by opening the bottom valve. The top valve is used to recirculate the water in the winter using a hydroponics water pump ( not shown). A small heater in the igloo keeps the temperature above freezing. In the...
