    Backyard Brahmas!!

This is my baby, Boss. He's about 4 months now. Until this week we really weren't sure about sex. This is my first time with chickens, and my husbands not had any for about 25 years. Just started getting the pointy saddle feathers this week. Started crowing a couple weeks ago, but I've read...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I realize this was originally posted almost 4 months ago, but I was at Cackle today, and had a wonderful experience. It's clean, ALL the chicks were very healthy and appeared very happy, not like when you go to a farm store. We got 5 more chicks to add to our flock. We specifically waited...

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

I've read some where that hens will crow if they don't have a roo, but I assumed that took longer to start, like well after a year old. I've had suspicions since about 3 weeks old, even posted picks then. Got both sexes as answers. The saddle feathers really just started clearly coming in...

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

This may seem obvious, but my husband and I disagree about the sex of this one. Saddle feathers are starting to come in thin and pointy, never mind the waddles. It's just about 4 months old. Part of the problem is the crowing. One of us thinks roo, the other a crowing hen. Any help?

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Ok, my babies are 6 weeks old now. This is the smaller of the two. And this is the larger of the two. Any ideas? Can everyone see my post? I've put two posts on this thread in the last couple weeks, but haven't had any responses.

    Cochin sexing help!?!?

Oh no! I don't mind what breed....but the point of getting them was for eggs! At least they'll eat bugs if they are both cockerels. I'm already attached anyway

    New Chicken Parent

Thank you for letting me know, I've been a little worried about that...the 2 I have are inseparable. If I take one away from the other they start making this terribly sad noise/cheep until they are together again. I'm afraid the won't accept any new birds. We'll be extra careful when we add!

    New Chicken Parent

Thanks for being so welcoming! Everyone has made me feel at home here. This site has been such a great resource for me. My husband has had adult chickens in the past, but he's not much help with the babies!

    Cochin Thread!!!

They were supposed to be white, looks like white with lots of black, their neck feathers are all coming in black with white stripes and the bigger one has black spots on its tail feathers. My husband and I were talking about hatching some last night, we aren't quite set up for that yet though...

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

These are my 'girls'. Obviously I have one of each...I'm new to chickens, from what I've read, I think the smaller one with the shorter tail and fewer feathers is probably a too, it's comb is larger than the other ones and slightly pinker. They are about 4.5 weeks old. They wouldn't cooperate...
