    What breed?

So I got eggs off ebay. Some bantam cochins and some silkies. 8 hatched out. 1 has 5 toe's but looks nothing like a silkie. Any guesses as to what breed it may be. Cochins don't have 5 toes.

Help! Bringing new pullets into an existing small flock

I have had good luck waiting until it was well after dark and the chickens have been on the roost for a while and putting the new chickens on the roosts with the others. Then in the morning they don't seem so agressive towards them. Just a suggestion, not guaranteed to work.

Mixed flock self segregation by breed.

Does any one else out there have a mixed flock that segregate themselves from the other breed of chickens? I have 4 R I's, 2 silverlaced Wyondottes and 2 EE's. They free range all day, the 4 RI's are always together, the Wyondottes are always together as are the EE's. I find this strange since...

    Chickens roosting in nesting boxes

Hmmm....... Did not know the roosts should be higher than the nest boxes. They are about the same height. I'll have to figure out a way to re-position them as this is a prefab coop.

    Chickens roosting in nesting boxes

Mine do the same thing, 8 chickens crammed in 3 net boxes and sitting on each other. I cut a piece of plywood and laid it over the top of the nest boxes until they get the hang of roosting on the roost bars. The have 9 feet of roost they can use.

    Chickens roosting in nesting boxes

Ya all of mine are roosting in 3 nest boxes. some on top of each other. They are about 20 weeks old. There are 3 - 3 foot long roost bars for them to roost on. They are soiling the nest boxes terribly so I guess I will have to cover the nest boxes until they get idea of using the roosts.
