I'm thinking my sick chicken has gapeworm. I would like to use a natural dewormer. Does anyone have experience with Verm-X? It is offered as pellets and also liquid but not sure which would be more effective?
okay, now I'm thinking she has gapeworm. She was opening her mouth very wide today. I'm going to get my husband to help me look in her throat tomorrow. Sure hope it isn't contagious. Going to find more info about it.
Has anyone had any experience with gapeworm?
Is there any sort of problem associated with a strange cluck. Hers has sounded raspy for several days, even before the day she began looking droopy. She was my first bird to change from the peep to cluck sound so I thought it was just a weird adjustment phase for her voice changing.
wouldn't I be seeing bloody poops? Her behavior is nothing like the one who had coccidiosis. That bird was on death's door. But she fully recovered and have treated all the birds during and since her illness. Which was almost 6 weeks ago.
I have a flock of 10 birds, just a few days past 12 weeks of age. My largest bird...the strongest, fastest grower aka "Big Bird" was very droopy and weak in the legs a few days ago. I moved her into quarantine and watched for abnormal poop. She was pooping dark green poop for over a day. Finally...
Sorry for delay in posting
Sorry for delay in posting 1nikki. I had 2 chicks with severe wing issues. They died (failure to thrive? just could not compete for food with the other birds that were growing faster) but the one with less of a problem survived and is doing very well. In fact she is...
Bedtime temps in 90's but by 5-6 am they are in the 80's...occasionally upper 70's. So is the consensus with everyone that it is okay to turn off heating pad for good? I worry about my littlest chicks because they only have feathers on the outermost wing. Not even any tail feathers coming in...
no not overheating but I accidentally started this same question in another forum instead of this one. Someone there said that they had a similar problem with some of their chicks and that it seemed as though the first feathers were the problem... which were sticking out funny but the wing was...
I agree with leaving the heating pad on in the mornings. I have been turning mine off about noon to save on electric bill...they don't seem to need it anymore when the coop is reaching 102 in the afternoon. (I'm in Texas. This is normal temp for August) I had to run a fan across some frozen...
And ChickNanny I did do a check of the wings. But since these are my first ever chicks I'm not sure what I'm looking for. They seem to be normal as compared to the others of the same breed whose wings lie flat against the body.
I'm starting to think that it is the feathers that are turned out...
I contacted the breeder and he said he had not had this problem with any other Australorps. He did offer some older chicks to replace these but I declined as they are 5 weeks older. I''m not comfortable integrating chicks that much older. I will just wait and see what happens with them.
I have had a very busy couple of weeks! Started with 15 , 5 each of Delaware, Australorps, and Welsummers. I now have 13...sad about the loss of the 2 and unfortunately my favorite, sweet little Welsummers but I guess that is pretty good for first timer.
LOVE the Wesummers soft caramel...
Thanks ChicksNanny13...I will check them tomorrow to see how they are turned. And I guess I should let the breeder know too. I probably wouldn't have thought of that.
No, haven't checked for injuries. They all have developed this shape at same rate of progress. Really don't think there is an injury. I will go back in my photos of them and try to figure out when they first started looking this way...
The mama heating pad is working beautifully in the coop! My chicks are now 16-18 days post hatching. So thankful to all those that inspired me to give it a try. Especially Blooie!
