My set date won't quite make it this year. I have to set my chicken eggs for a classroom hatch on March 30, hatch dates will likely just miss the deadline. I'll still follow along and enter some contests! :)
I like this reasoning :).
It is so tempting to do a small hatch before I need to do the school hatch. The problem being I have an order of chicks coming from Meyer the week after the school chicks hatch and that's probably my limit for this year.
Having said that I found myself spending too...
Reading through this thread and others to get ready for hatching. In the past used NR360 with great success at home and not as great at school. I got the Maticoopx20 to use this year because of the great reviews and the water bottle. One issue with the NR360 at school was the humidity dropping...
It's fun to think and plan when we are in the middle of winter. I only planned to order 2 bantam calico cochins but somehow 4 jumped into my cart!:jumpy
I ordered some chicks, mostly bantams, from Meyer for the last week of April:
Calico Cochins-4
Mille Fleur-2
Bantam Frizzle Easter Egger-2
Cuckoo Silkie Bantam-2
Frizzle Saphire Jewel.-2
I will also be hatching from my flock around the same time, trying for some more frizzle mixes or turken...
Today I transplanted some brussel sprouts and cabbage. This is very late for these cold crops but I want to give them a chance. I started more than usual indoors this winter, I decided to try starting some things in greenstalk planters in the house (taken apart). It was an idea and it didn't...
Good choice to reunite them. I'm raising 6 regular sized chicks and 4 bantams who are 11 days younger. There is a big size difference now they are 4-6 weeks old but they hate being apart. I briefly considered letting the big chicks out of the brooder first but the bantams miss them if I even...
One chick with a mama hen should be ok. We had a hen sneakily hatch just one egg over the winter mama and chick did fine. The chick is a roo of course.:he
Lots of rain here. I got some indoor gardening done after work. I potted up some winter squash seeds. I know they do best planted right in the ground and we do that too but have some started indoors in case the critters eat all the seeds outside before they do their thing :).
Agreed, thanks for the thread. My Maticoopx 20 has arrived and I'm running it now, without eggs, to check everything is working and that I understand the machine.
Are they still seeking out the heated area? I have a group of 6 birds who are nearly 6 weeks and 4 birds that are 4 weeks. They're all together. I'm leaving their brooder heat plate for now, they seem to be using it less and less and mainly only the younger ones. I don't know what your weather...
