Test for interest: emu chicks . . . MAYBE

We NEVER count our chickens before they hatch. We have emu eggs in the incubator, with expected hatch (or four-person omelettes) in early April. The last time we did this, in 2016, one hatched, and was shipped - doing well last time I checked. Anticipate $200 plus shipping (crate + air...

Emu Hatch - Signs of life

I have attempted to hatch four emu eggs. No movement from any of them. One hatched. And AMAZING biology, after 63 day, the other three were still good to eat.

    Rheas in colder climates

I would hatch them for you -- can handle four at a time. Looking for eggs myself.

    Emu Adventure

It's winter, and my guess is your air is as dry as ours. Last year, my eggs started later in the year, and the humidity was higher. I used a custard cup then to keep the humidity where I wanted it. Now, with the air so dry, my incubator is an old Hovabator 1602, and it has channels...

2 New emu eggs in the incubator - Day 0 20170130

Turns out, a rotten emu egg smells just as bad as a rotten chicken egg, only bigger. We declared the smaller egg bad this evening -- the amazing anti-bacterial action inherent in eggs (of our previous pair of incubated eggs, one was infertile, and after 54 days in the incubator, it was still...

Any emu hatchers...l need help ASAP!

From my experience, that is pretty normal. Similar to a human baby, you MUST see them poop after a few days. Fascinating about their biology is they hatch with a fair amount of the yolk still inside them, that keep them going and get started.

The life of Daryl the emu

Right behind you. Ordered a pair of hatching eggs out of El Paso this evening. Hope the Post Office doesn't let them get cold.

    Keeping Emus~

Wow, timing is everything in life. I'm happy for you. What state, just curious. The Emu book basically says the emus can be kept anywhere, though at least should have a running lane to access as they do like to run. Suggest you get the book if you're going to keep them. While the...

    Northern Virginia

I think ducks are our favorites. The foxes are a real challenge around west county though. We couldn't figure out a way to fence in the ducks without it looking like a jail, and just didn't have the resources to make a pond, which of course is what would be best to protect water fowl. Best...
