As long as they're eating and drinking some, I don't mind them shutting themselves in for a few days. We have a second round coming tonight and tomorrow, but we should be mostly thawed out by Saturday.
I'm in Arkansas, and we just got a huge snow (for us), with more to come. My ducks are terrified of the snow, and frankly they'd be up to their necks in it, so they're staying in. My concern is them not drinking water. I don't want to put water in there house for them to splash around just so...
Just went out to give her more water and some corn. The corn got her to stand up on the one leg and use the other to balance a little. She was shaking a little bit, but could stand there. The bum leg doesn't appear to be swollen or any hotter than the other, and I don't feel any breaks, but I'm...
Our favorite duck (hybrid 300) came down with a bit of a limp a little before Xmas, on a Friday. Took her to the vet the following Monday, by which time the limp was much worse. He said she had vasculitis, and to treat it twice a day with a liquid oral antibiotic for the next week. On the 7th...
Thanks for all the help! Our gardens in the past have been underperforming, but I think they've always gotten too much evening sun. Not a problem in this spot. Here's my progress on the duck proof raised garden.
Just need to build the gate and fill in the flower boxes up front with dirt, then...
I'll try to be brief. Our duck run and house are at one end of the yard towards the creek. I cover the ground with straw to keep it clean and nicer looking probably every other month. After long periods of rain, they pitter patter that stuff into a thick mud that clogs up the fence pickets and...
Where are the first places mite problems would show on the ducks? I have one that has a thinner spot on the back of her head. They've had a lot of pool time, so it may be the others pulling some out during their weird rituals.
I'm in Arkansas, and I live in the city. When I put them up last night I looked around with my flashlight and saw two of these things on the outside of the house, but none inside. Doesn't mean they aren't there, but they were easy to find before. I'll get some stuff to spray around the house as...
The floor of my house is a type of board/sheet you can spray off. It has little dimples all over it for texture, so it catches debris when I'm cleaning it out. Not warm enough for me to spray it out yet.
I've only put a thin layer of cedar on the bottom and a thick layer of pine shavings on top. Haven't done that in years though.
It's deep enough for full submersion. They preen once or twice a day. When they first get out and then later in the afternoon. All laying eggs and acting normal. I...
