    Calcium deposits

So my easter egger (little over a year old) has been laying eggs with a good amount of calcium deposits this spring. There has been no change in feed (use general purpose with no calcium) or available oyster shells. No signs of illness/stress. Other layers are doing fine. So maybe a defective...

    Intergration issues

I'm having issues intergrating my 13 week pullets (4 of them) into my flock (3 hens). I have been doing the look but no touch method for 3 weeks with supervised meets which had the normal pecking order stuff. Now the pullets are free ranging but still living in a temp coop. The older hens ignore...

    Hawk not afraid

First there is plenty of proof that cooper's hawks will attack full grown chickens. There are many videos of it on youtube. Second, I know crows and bluejays are not predators of the hawk. But I have seen both relentlessly attack hawks until they leave. So this is what I mean that they help a...

    Hawk not afraid

I live in the city so my advice does not apply to everyone. But the best bet is lock the chickens down until the hawk gives up. Also have a large crow and bluejay population that help me a ton.

    Hawk not afraid

Have a hawk chilling around that is not afraid of humans or my husky. Had my chickens out of the run in my backyard with a friend. All the squirrel were being loud so knew something was up. The hawk came over the tree and swooped down at us. Chickens are on lock down for the next few days. I...
