@chickens really
They sure do look happy!
Is that an EE rooster I see? I think I will end up installing a 40 watt bulb to ensure the light needed for laying MAYBE. But aside from making the coop more windproof, I guess they should be alright. If it really comes down to a personal choice...
Also, please note. The coop is not nearly as open as the pics imply. I have since installed wood slabs and thick stapled tarp/plastic for a pond liner in all open areas.
Friends,
Thanks for posting. So it sounds like some of you do heat. I have been extensively told not to heat. That it may sound completely counter intuitive but that if the power goes out or if I forget to start/Stop the light, it could kill all of them due to unregulated temp and dependency...
Friends,
Thanks for reading!
I am writing to see if anyone can talk me out of heating my coop. This is admittedly my first winter with hens. They are about 2 and a half years old - 3 years old. Due to age and breed, they have stopped laying this winter. I am fine with them not laying right...
Friends,
Thanks for posting!
Now this is a very serious question. I tend to think like @Alpha Roo does. If i'm freezing, how could my girls not be? But Everyone swears up and down that they will be fine. Cold, but fine without a light. However, I am in a Suburb of SLC UT and it is now...

@FoodFreedomNow , Thanks, ill have to contact that member! I have it down as far as taking the fatty cells off of the fur. It's the drying part that is getting me. They tend to rip at the points where I hand them from. Also, there must be some better way to dry...
Thanks for posting these pics!. I always wondered what it would be like to work or even volunteer at the humane society. I think i may look into this, as it would be very rewarding. Here in SLC, UT, there is a beer festival with the intent to use at least partial funds for the humane society. I...
These kits were born not two weeks ago. There are a total of 8. I believe the doe is a Blanc de Hotot mix and the buck is a California Rex/ New Zealand White mix. Basically, meat mutts. This is my second litter. I am about 1 and half years into this project. I didn't want to rush and produce a...
Thanks again for all the replies. You will be hearing from me soon. Feel free to look me up on backyardheards as well. I raise rabbit kits and have two bucks and one doe.
Friends,
Thanks for replying!
Especially for Chicken Canoe. This is great info. I am glad to purchase the pellets vs the other for the time being. I am wondering if they carry pellet form of flock feeder. If not, ill buy it in whatever form it comes. Then in the summer i'll feed the Layer...
Friends,
Thank you all for writing.
This is all very specific advise that I appreciate very much. As I am understanding, I am completely wrong on the feeding system I am using. In a few hours, I am heading over to the IFA and purchasing this
grower or all flock feed, which I am seeing is...
Here are some more pictures. I will get a lot more tomorrow during the day. They are approximately 3 to 3 1/2. I just learned I am mistaken. I was under the impression layer mesh in conjunction with scratch and oyster shells was supposed to be the basic food most people feed the flock. May I...

You'll notice I typically don't post much, as if not to flood the forums with repeat questions. Unfortunately I am at a loss as I have tried all but one thing.
If you notice my pictures of my coop on my profile, it is a safe enough enclosure. My hens get daily...
