Im keeping her inside due to flies. Thats the last thing she needs. I have a plan to reintroduce her when she is healed. I have found a good resource to do it safely.
Unfortunately it was my rooster that did this. I was away for a couple of days amd she was continually attacked. Im hopeful she will recover with treatment as she is eating and drinking well!
So my hen has a severe wound. Her entire back is skinless. My rooster ripped her open and I beleaguered she was pecked at by him and her sisters. I jave removed her cleaned her wound daily with vetracin wound was and am applying Tripple antibiotic ointment daily. She is bright alert eating...
Slip the under her bottom at night. She should accept them. I gave my broody hen two batches of day old babies two spring in a row. Worked well both times. Supervise her for a bit to make sure she accepts them
No distress with with breathing just lethargic and not eating will drink occasionally on her own. Am going to treat with Corid this afternoon after work

keep the area clean use a little neosprin on it for about a week and then just leave it to let the air get to it. Separate her from the rest of the flock to avoid pecking keep her inside and keep flies off the wound. As far as the spike thing you could file it down if it does not bleed . You...

so Rexie is doing well. The black scab has come off her wound and the tissue underneath is pink and looks healthy. She is eating well and recovering with Tank another chicken also survived the attack. Both are well
I will keep you updated. She seems good, her entire back has no skin down to the muscle. The wound is clean so I'm hopeful it will eventually heal. My other hen has a wind clean but much smaller. They are recovering together inside.
Spry with 50/50 mix of bleach and water soak it well and let it dry for a week or so. Should kill any germs placenta new wood chips or construction grade sand on the floor for new bedding
I see this is an old post but did you Jen survive her injuries? I am tearing a RIR right now with very similar wound. Just wondering if it will ever heal up. She has no sign of infection is eating and drinking well, but looks awful. She was on an attibiotc but is finished now.
