I've been treating them for cocci since right before that one took sick. No one else has died, including the one I took out with the now dead one. This morning, so about four days into Corrid, another one is all huddled and gasping. I've quarantined it and it's under a heat lamp, in the 80...
About four weeks old, two just seemed off. Kind of huddled up, resting on hocks. Then I noticed a hen knock one over! Like it just tipped.
I took them out and noticed they were warm, legs seemed swollen and their butts were enlarged, all puffy.
A little while later, the bigger one (that...
I tested them for leaving eggs in unusual places by letting them out late one day - and still only about a half dozen. Certainly a possibility, but not that likely.
I recall there being many illnesses that stunt egg production, but chickens seem healthy.
If there was only any easy way to tell...
Ok, truth is we have over 100 hens (keep telling my husband it's a hundred) and about 17 roosters. Everyone free ranges and with the recent rooster reduction, I would have imagined an increase. All through the summer, 2-3 doz egg per day was the norm. Point is I don't think they're over...
I'll try the cayenne, but am still trying to figure out some of the possible reasons why appr. 96 hens out of 102 hens would stop laying when only a few are moulting, the light has been supplemented, they have food and water, they have been dewormed recently and roosters have been removed...
We have about 100 hens, mixed breeds, mixed ages, some are moulting. We removed about 20 roosters and still have 20 roosters. We dewormed the flock last month, and have supplemented light exposure. Still, only getting half dozen eggs a day is alarming. Any other ideas why there are so few...
I'm so sad! We have about 100 hens and are getting maybe 6 eggs a day.
They have food and water. We've taken out about twenty roosters, recently dewormed them, added lights and still no eggs.
They seem healthy, albeit some are four years old now.
Any idea why they've haven't produced much...
We have Randall Linebacks and I adore them. Small breeds, not like Old World Guernseys, but docile and triple purpose. Look them up on www.ALBC-usa.org. It's a VT breed and does well in NY.
Wow, I've never seen that before. Sounds like you were quick thinking and it worked.
I keep water very close to the feed, so they don't have to go too far to rinse their bills.
Post a photo of her eggs if you have one. Wrinkly eggs can be indicative of diseases.
Sounds like she's a candidate for one of the reproductive problems.
Had this happen with a duck recently.
Drenched open wound in hydrogen peroxide, picked out maggots.
Then drenched wound with Betadine, picked out rest of maggots (there was thousands, we did this for over an hour)
Then sprayed on the BlueKote.
Repeated daily.
Not sure about Wazine, but most meds need to be mixed up daily to stay effective.
Do NOT incubate these eggs.
I won't eat the eggs for at least two weeks, but my dogs love them. They could probably use the bonus worming as well.
