Official BYC Poll: How Important Is It That You Get Eggs From Your Chickens?

I got started raising chickens with nothing but pure breeds and now have a bunch of mixed chickens and a few roosters. Really enjoy having my flock and if they don’t lay eggs then I don’t eat eggs so. No store bought stuff for me. When they don’t lay anymore I’ll still keep them fed and let them...

    Any ideas?

I'm not really sure on the exact age because it belongs to a friend of mine. He said he thinks it's about four months old but he has so many different ages and types of chickens he can't remember exactly when he got it. I told him I thought it was a cockerel but wanted some more opinions. White...

    Any ideas?

Just wondering if anyone knows what this one is. It's probably about four months old and massive. I know for sure that it isn't a leghorn. It was bought at tractor supply. I'm also wondering if it's a cockerel or a pullet? I'm thinking cockerel but it doesn't act like one.

    Silkie?

I'm sure they're part silkie. I'm just seeing if anyone has any idea what the other half of them could be. Thanks for your answer though.

    Silkie?

Here is another pic of the gray one where you can see the amount of leg feathering on it.

    Silkie?

I got the eggs from a friend who got them from someone else. He told me that she said they were serama eggs. As far as I know she doesn't even any polish or pekin. I know she owns silkies and serama but she says they are kept apart from each other. I'm pretty positive they're some sort of mix...

What breeds of chickens do you have?

I have (4) white leghorn, (2) easter egger, (1) Sicilian buttercup, (1) Indian red junglefowl, (1) brown leghorn, (1) welsummer, (1) buff chantecler, (3) roosters which are easter egger, silkie, and a silver sebright. I also have lots of baby silkies or silkie mixes, a few easter egger babies...

    Silkie?

I hatched a bunch of eggs that I was told were serama. They all came out looking more like silkies to me. The funny thing is they're all different. One is really frizzled, some have mostly silkie features such as black skin and feet and the extra toes, and some have regular feathered wings...

How sure would you say you are and how are you making that determination? I've had chickens a while but sexing them always seems to puzzle me.

[/IMG][/IMG] Any ideas on what these two on the right might be? They're both easter egger mixes. The one on the right is from two easter Egger and the one in the middle is easter Egger and most likely brown leghorn. Just trying to determine what sex they are. They are almost 12 weeks old...

    What gender are these?

Pretty sure these are Roos. They're 22 weeks old and aren't crowing but I think they're probably roosters. One is easter Egger/buff chantecler and the other is easter egger/Sicilian buttercup. I expected them to have longer tail feathers since their father did at that age. [/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

You may find out like I did about a week ago. My sebright are 8 weeks old and last week one of them started crowing. I've either got a pullet and a cockerel or two cockerel with one who just hasn't started crowing yet. Haven't found anywhere to get them without them being straight run.

Pretty sure you're right. Within a couple of weeks it should develop some fuzzy looking feathers right above the tail in the middle of it's back. That'll tell you for sure.

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

I'm wondering if anyone has any guesses on these two. They're 7 weeks old in two days and are either welsummer or brown leghorn. I can't tell which ones are which since they are so similar. They were sold to me as pullets. Both combs are very light colored so I'm thinking they are pullets.

His legs are more gray than green, but the pic makes it look like they're green. I see what you're saying though. He's an EE. That's okay with me. I was able to see him born in an incubator and raised him so he's still pretty special to me. All of my other chickens are pure breed and I intended...

Okay. I hatched him from an egg I got from a guy who claimed they were Ameracuana. These eggs were blue. I also saw photos of his chickens and they appeared to be true Ameracuana to me. What tells you he's an EE instead? Isn't his coloring correct for an Ameracuana?

Pretty sure that's a cockerel. He looks pretty close to my Ameracuana. The tail and comb give it away. This is a pic of my cockerel. They're nice looking birds. I've decided to keep mine even though I was against having a rooster.
