So confused about what is going on.

We didn't autopsy the other two. No change in egg quality. We got all of them from a family member and I don't think he knew the ages of the original 5. He had 50+ Hens on his farm when we got them and he raised the second 5 from chicks so we know the ages. We normally let them out in the yard...

So confused about what is going on.

Well! We got 5 chickens (don't know the exact age) in April 2016. I say We but they belong to my dad . In October we got 5 more. These were 6 months old. In December one of the original girls stopped laying eggs and became sick. We took her to the vet and he said he could feel a large mass in...

    Tough summer

Well, we took her to the vet. He said she was not egg bound but has a rather large tumor. We didn't notice it until she started to lose weight. He gave her 2months max. He went ahead and gave her a shot of antibiotics. We brought her home and he can put her to sleep when we think she is ready...

    Tough summer

Got these girls in April of this year. All 1-2 years old. They have names but it's easier numbering them lol #1 never really laid a good egg. The few she had were soft shelled. Stopped laying not long after we got her. She eats, drinks and poops fine. She's a beautiful chicken. #2 just hasn't...

    Tough summer

Now fear starts to set in when I read more info on this site. Kind of like when you lookup symptoms on WebMD?!?! What are the odds that 3 of our original 5 are egg bound? Tums? Would it hurt to try it?? Quote:

    Tough summer

We we had to separate the molting chicken from the rest. She was getting stressed from the other girls pecking at her new feathers coming out. Poor thing. One of the young girls (6 month old) surprised us yesterday! Not sure which of the 5 but one of them laid an egg! Then another today! They...

    Tough summer

We got 5 chickens and a rooster in April. One chicken (2 year old) Would lay thin shelled eggs and stopped laying not too long after. She seems healthy and we didn't worry about it. About 2 months later another stopped laying (1 year old)... 3 months later another stopped (2 year old). Out of...

    chicken laid a broken egg

We kept a close eye on her and she seemed to feel better as each day passed. She started to run up to the fence and wait for her food. I decided to bring them some meal worms... to see how she would act. Wow! What a difference! She was jumping around and running! Like her old self!

    Food Scraps?

They are outside. They spend about 12 hours outside of thier coop in a large fenced in area attached to the coop. We call it the "playpen" and they can come and go as they please. They go in to eat, drink and of course lay eggs.

    Food Scraps?

How often should you give them treat's or table scraps? Or how do you know what's too much?
