I had a 1.5 year old bantam dead this morning in the run.
She has been broody since May (2.5 months)
The others are thriving - we have 2 other bantams the same age, and 6 younger ones (April chicks).
Unless we lifted her out, she would rarely eat/drink or poop.
Her poops were always HUGE...
Sadly - some critter got a hold of at least 1 of our 7 hens today (middle of the day!) the kids are sad - we were able to locate 3 healthy ones- but they were hiding up in our deck
Still looking for the missing 3- my son saw the critter (must be a mink or weasel ) He said it looked like a...
So we are able to let them out with no issues. The tend to stay pretty close to their coop ...
It's funny to watch them chase each other for[/IMG][/IMG] worms!
Thanks for the ideas ... Anything wrong with going free range the first year?
My kids have them outside several data a week already and the chicks are pretty easy to get back in the coop
We are on 2.5 acres - no really close neighbors with dogs
Thanks for the comments guys. I have a small run ( 3'x3'x10') made to attach when they're a bit bigger , but I'm wondering if any of you have good suggestions that would work with our coop?
Thanks in advance
We just moved our chickens out into the coop last night from the brooder (5 weeks old)
They survived!
I'm keeping the heat lamp on at night for another week or so
