Has anyone tried giving chickens other fermented foods? Kombucha? I have a ginger bug that I'm using the liquid from to make ginger ale, would the hens eat the solids or would too much ginger hurt them?
You can have up to three 'farm animals' without a permit, which can be three chickens, three ducks, three goats, one of each, anything you like. Any more than three though and you need a permit. I'm thinking about it, though, because it's only $30 to have more chickens... and we all know how...
I guess it looked better than it tasted- one of my chickens that will eat anything pecked at it a bit and immediately started wiping her beak on the ground. Not good!
All my hens are from a previous chicken owner and are in their second year of laying, so I'd be pretty darn surprised if they weren't all hens
I'm not sure what breeds they are, though- anyone want to give a hand?

I made warm mash for my girls this morning and they loved it. So cute.
I tried making jam with sucralose instead of sugar for my grandma (she's diabetic and can't have much sugar) but it turned out horribly! Way too tart, a weird texture, and just not good. I was wondering if it was ok to let my chickens have a go at it, though- I know they definitely love...
