Awe, yay! Enjoy! I have read a lot about how hard they are to hatch, but honestly if I’ve gotten such a good hatch rate in this dumpster fire of an incubation, I have to disagree. LOL. Another hatched yesterday, two eggs left in the incubator and both are alive and well. If all goes smoothly...
Thank you so much! Still in the incubator, the navel looks good now and they’ll be ready to join the other chicks tomorrow. Here they are this evening, I pulled them out to check on them (while the next egg, egg #1, started pipping 😂)
Also helped the other chick out, blood vessels were all dry but she was for sure stuck in the membrane. I carefully chipped away the egg shell to make sure the membrane was ready to come apart. Didn’t see any vessels. The membrane was dried to her back and abdomen. Was able to coax it back with...
#11 is out of the egg. Just needed a little help getting unstuck from the dry membrane. Looks good!
Yolk fully absorbed, blood vessels were all dry and he looks good I think! Back in the incubator to fluff up.
They were starting to zip last night. One hasn’t made much more progress. The one pictured made more progress but isn’t out of the egg.
Less rocking and chirping than yesterday.
I thought that about #3 too but wasn’t 100% sure.
Here is where we’re at this morning...zipping started last night as I was going to bed. They’re partially zipped but still in the egg. This is egg 11, this morning.

another view of #7
#8 (the egg I thought would be next to hatch and I was right, it’s the malpositioned chick that I made this post about):
Another view of 8:
And finally, egg 11, (the egg that was chipped yesterday and is pipping, also malpositioned, today)
another view of 11...
A little back story, just because it's been such a crazy adventure (for me, anyway), for whomever is interested in reading...I wish I had chronicled it from the beginning!
I bought a Genesis Hovabator in August with the intention of incubating a small set of my Serama eggs. I have two hens and...
There are fancier looking models but honestly, I read so many great reviews for this one I got it. It's super straight forward, hard to find a fault with it so far.
Thanks again. I'm comfortable he's not suffocating, because he's peeping right into the hole, I can clearly see his beak moving. I am more concerned that the humidity was low...I hope I didn't shrink wrap him is all 😢
Thank you! I found he had pipped this morning so I'll wait until tomorrow to re-evaluate. It's peeping and rocking the egg quite a bit, but doesn't seem to have changed position at all in about 8 hours now.
I thought about getting one of the little Brinsea ones, but a friend recommended against it because even though it is great for keeping the right humidity, the round shape and domed lid is a little cramped once the eggs start to hatch. The Hovabator is nice and roomy. I like it so far.
I bought this:

I think it has everything you're looking for, and with the auto turner and two sets of racks (regular egg and quail egg size), it's about $200.
This is my first hatch of Serama chicks and let me tell you, it's been an ADVENTURE.
I can share some backstory about the Serama hen that went broody and how I ended up with an incubator of 11 eggs all at different stages of development, if anyone in interested, LOL. It's definitely a "2020...
