How to treat a broken leg.

The only risk I see is if the wound you mentioned is bloody, your other bird will peck it relentlessly. It's in them to do this. They do not know friendship at the point of seeing or smelling blood. Any little thing that is different will be pecked at as well. So I imagine a splint would...

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Nu Stock. It is marketed for cat, dogs and horses, but someone advised me and I am forever grateful. Will grow back scales, skin, fur and feathers-even on wounds that appear fatal. You will not be sorry.

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Three of them died. The one with maggots on her bottom had two ruptures of the vent with decal matter showing through. So I had to put her down on my own. It was awful. The other two died naturally in my arms. Two others I got to in time and are ok except for respiratory issue and have...

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Oh my gosh!!! One of them has tiny maggots teeming from her bottom! Like crawling everywhere! I gave her a very warm bath in Dawn and they are gone-for now. What the heck? I am thoroughly spooked. Edited by Staff

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Thank you. The first two are now acting like they want up. I went out and found one outside the coop. The other lifts her head and struggles to come up which is an improvement. Also, one is showing a better swallow response. The third is sitting. A fourth one is walking well but can't seem to...

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

I have been giving Epsom salt molasses every few hours. They are no worse. A few other birds are shaky and have mucous in the mouth. I started treating them right away. No deaths yet. Keeping the two sickest ones wrapped up.

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Thank you again for the advice. I gave them the mixture and wrapped them up to stay warm. I will go back out in an hour or two and give them some more. They look so pitiful but every once in awhile will suddenly rouse and fight me, squawking and kicking.

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Help! Two birds sitting there, head dropping! I gave electrolytes by medicine dropper. No wounds and were fine yesterday. But I found a dead possum that had maggots and the birds were eating them. I covered up the corpse. The electrolytes seemed to rouse them a bit but they keep their eyes...

Pullets STILL not really laying...could I have messed them up?

When my birds ( older than yours) stopped laying, I gave them massive amounts of protein every other day. Meal worms, boiled eggs, dried Fisk, even kitten chow! It if full of fat and protein. Just to kick start them. And it worked. Also, are their legs still yellow? I have been told they won't...

    No eggs for many days

I had been giving mine layer pellets and free ranging all day. It was not until I jacked up their protein did they start laying again. The whole molting process is so stressful and adding to that the return of laying... One of my birds just fell down and died from the effort before I instituted...

Help, bald patch on my chickens back

I am sorry about Emmett. There are ways to reduce the spur, but I did not trust myself to the process. But you can find info on the site for trimming. Not sure if his spur is causing your damage, but my Sonny was leaving Dolly bleeding on the ground. Nu Stock cleaned, protected and closed that...

    No eggs for many days

I too experienced this over the summer in FL. Not much molting either. But one day I bought a 3 lb. bag of mealworms and gave a half pound to 10 birds and the next day I gave kitten chow, then worms, etc... By the fourth day I had gone from 1 egg a day to 3-4. Now I am up to 3-6. They just...

Help, bald patch on my chickens back

I have a lovely little hen who was ripped down to the bloody meat from a rooster. A large area too. Well, I was horrified. The feed store recommended Nu Stock. I slathered some on her rather thickly and let it dry. I added more in the coming days if raw spots showed through. I got rid of the...

How to treat a broken leg.

i had a hen that had a a paving stone topple onto her leg and she was hurt. Bruising and swelling on foot and inability to bear weight with it. I separated her in a small cage, kept her warm, dry and drunk on gin and water. That way she did not try to move around much. I also added Poultry Cell...

How to treat a broken leg.

Hi there! I am new here but love reading all the cool stuff on BYC. I have a girl about 4 months old who had a brick fall on her foot. It is greenish-blue and the middle toe is crooked. I have her separated and have been giving her water with a bit of gin from a syringe by hand to keep her calm...
