I just thought I would post a picture of interesting cross.
This is a Jubilee x Buff Orpington pullet.
She is red with white mottling.
Most of the Jubilee x Buff Orpington mixes I get are either Red or Buff with no mottling at all.
She is definitely a one of a kind.
I have 2 mottled Java pullets and 2 mottled Java cockerels.
I got them from a breeder local to me as baby chicks back in the beginning of June.
The pullets are all black and the cockerels black with buff leakage.
I was told by the breeder that they mottling pattern would get better as they age...
I have blue and black standard size Cochins and they go broody often.
You won't need many to get a broody.
If you get let's say 5 standard size Cochins you will probably get around 3 to go broody.
I only have 5 and 3 are broody right now.
Most go broody twice a year.
They are very protective...
Don't get anything with lots of crest feathers like Polish.
Don't get Silkies, frizzles or any breed with feathers on the feet/legs as they attract scaly leg mites and mud/ice will stick to the legs.
Cornish Rock hybrid broilers and Red Rangers are the only heavy meat chickens that suffer from...
Well the Jubilee Orpington hens have missing feathers on their backs from the Jubilee rooster mounting them.
My wife and I are discussing a new theory.
We had the Jubilee Orpington rooster and Jubilee hens in a smaller coop.
We think with the height limitations he couldn't properly mount them.
Here's some pictures of my very rare Mottled Javas.
They are about 6 weeks old.
I looked online to see if it's possible to order these.
They are hard to find online.
I got them from a breeder in Vestaburg, Michigan.
The funky chicken hatchery.
Looks like I got 2 cockerels and 4 pullets.
2 out of...
I decided to remove the Govee thermometer and just roll with the factory settings.
I got 18 to hatch of 48.
But I candled them and something like 26 made it to lock down.
So 18 of 26 that made it to lock down.
Needless to say using a Govee thermometer does not work.
Better results just going...
We put our Jubilee Orpington rooster back in a coop with 6 Buff Orpingtons hens and now are getting fertile eggs.
Strange he must not be compatible with the 2 Jubilee Orpington hens.
Well I have a update on this thread.
One of the Jubilee Orpington x Buff Orpington cross pullets from last year went broody and hatched 5 chicks today.
So crossing heritage stock Jubilee Orpingtons with hatchery stock Buff Orpingtons produced a Orpington with a higher tendency to go broody.
I have 2 pictures of my incubator.
It is a $85 Chinese eBay incubator that holds 48 eggs, automatic egg turning trays and has a fan.
My hatch rates are not very good like less than 50%
I have a mercury thermometer that I bought from Tractor Supply it's a Producers Pride brooder thermometer.
I...
I sold standard size Cochin hatching eggs this year and it was a mixed bag.
I had a few customers with success but they have top of the line incubators.
I sold some hatching eggs to inexperienced people, they didn't have any hatch and they claimed that my hatching eggs are junk.
I'm not selling...
