Help, rooster sliced his own neck open (graphic pic)

I'm on the border of Orange County; just curious though, for general chicken visits do they cost as much as dogs and cats? I've heard that they are pricey and many usually refuse to work on chickens or suggest putting down since they are seen as commodity

Help, rooster sliced his own neck open (graphic pic)

I've been applying a medical spray on his wounds twice a day and eventually let him hang out in a confined cage outside with others during the day. His chest actually healed up almost entirely now, and the neck is almost mostly covered by big scabs, although you can kind of still see a hole in...

Help, rooster sliced his own neck open (graphic pic)

just an update, the wound on his neck and the scabs on his chest seem to be infected since there is a bad smell coming from the area. I went over the black scabs and the gaping hole with iodine solution, and noticed that the flesh around the hole are turning dark to black ish. He is eager to...

Help, rooster sliced his own neck open (graphic pic)

I'm located in a more suburban area in the mountains in cali, and the vets I've been to around treat mostly dogs and cats. We have brought in a parrot before and they could not do much for him.. There's currently no active bleeding besides what looks like dried blood on his feathers, and for an...

Help, rooster sliced his own neck open (graphic pic)

I have a disabled months old small rooster with a deformed leg, he often topples over and struggles on the floor due to his one leg being grown sideways. Within a span of a few days he developed a big wound/scab on his chest, which I suspect to be self harm? however just now I witnessed him...

How can I help a chicken with deformed leg live more comfortably?

Hello, I have a white sultan rooster who is now about 3.5 months old with a pretty deformed leg. I previously posted questions about his weird foot when he was a chick here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/chick-with-foot-deformity-or-tumor.1478244/ Back then he only hopped around a...

Urgent - is this coccidiosis or dehydration/malnutrition in chicks?

So, some of the chicks have been more actively eating on their own, and they all much prefer to eat out of my hand than the bowl for some reason. They also prefer to be huddled under a heat lamp and some of them sleep on their sides (or just don't get up after falling over), whenever I panic...

Urgent - is this coccidiosis or dehydration/malnutrition in chicks?

Yes.. they were switched to the Manna Pro medicated version this week, and that is currently all we have, other than scratch grains for the older chicks and chickens. Which one would be better for them, if we currently have no other options? Edit update: Just came back with corid, they seem...

Urgent - is this coccidiosis or dehydration/malnutrition in chicks?

Thanks, I brought them indoors and gave them some nutridrench water for the time being. Since they weren't on medicated feed before, will it help if we got them medicated feed in combination with corid treatment? To my understanding it is the lack of a vitamin that suppresses coccidiosis, and...

Urgent - is this coccidiosis or dehydration/malnutrition in chicks?

Just an update for today, corid has not arrived yet and we lost another 2 chicks. The rest are looking lethargic, pale and sick, just standing and huddled up. Is it going to be too late for them? Should I bring them indoors or give them nutridrench in the mean time?

Urgent - is this coccidiosis or dehydration/malnutrition in chicks?

I just ordered the powder version of corid on amazon and it should deliver tomorrow. In the mean time is there anything I can give to or do for the chicks to help them feel better? The sick 1 month old chicks have access to open air now, wondering if there is more that I can do for them...

Urgent - is this coccidiosis or dehydration/malnutrition in chicks?

Thanks for all the replies, they have been on standard non-medicated chick starter, so they weren't getting any grit. Before they were moved into the coop they have been just fine eating. They usually have a standard water feeder and open bowls of feed, and the splattered corn pieces on the...

Urgent - is this coccidiosis or dehydration/malnutrition in chicks?

Hello, I have a batch of 1 month old chicks, 12 white sultans and 4 silkies. They are living in a caged shelf compartment inside the main coop of our chickens in warm California weather. There is almost no light source inside besides the door leading into it, so they are provided night lights...

Chick with foot deformity or tumor?

It feels firm, almost more like a callus than a liquid filled sac, and I did not see any abnormal liquid around his foot.. All of his foot feathers are growing out of that flesh chunk and bent under his foot when he walks, while the other foot's feathers fan out towards the ground normally. He...

Chick with foot deformity or tumor?

Hello, I have a 1.5 months old male white sultan chick who I've always suspected to have some kind of foot deformity related to his extra toes and slight limp. Today while holding him I noticed that the side of his one foot has a slightly redder, firm-ish flesh mass, where the foot feathers grow...

Days old chick not eating and refusing yolk

Just to add on, I'm not sure if this would mean anything but she is a white crested blue polish with pink feet, when all 9 others have orange feet.. Not sure if that indicates some issues or she's just special

Days old chick not eating and refusing yolk

Had some days old chicks come in the mail yesterday, all immediately caught onto eating and drinking on their own and were lively except for one, it was the usual symptoms of acting lethargic and weak. I've separated her in a small box over night to avoid trampling, and have tried to feed her...
