    White Rock Hen cross

I'll be sure to share pics in the spring when I try it because if any are white chicks I'll know where they came from.:p Still not sure if I'll get white chicks or blackish chicks. Found a post on here with a hatchery white rock hen and a SLW that made SLW-esque chicks, but also reading a post...

    White Rock Hen cross

Thanks for the response. That is a big leg on a 6wk chicken. . My goal is to hatch eggs late winter to practice with my incubator/ have chickens to sell at the flea market. My flock is a barred rock, 2 production reds, and some SLW hens with a roo, plus the now 7 white hens. They were all...

    White Rock Hen cross

The people who buy them to eat do not like pure white birds because they assume they come from a chicken house and are not backyard raised. They would rather eat a smaller colored bird than a Cornish X. Im not trying to trick people bc I don't plan on selling these hens but thought they would do...

    White Rock Hen cross

I asked if they were white rocks and found out they are actually Cobb chickens. Does this help with the genetics?

    White Rock Hen cross

No I don't care about sexlink. Just curious. I will raise them all out to 4 or 5 months old. Just don't want pure white chickens. Looks like from the calculator I'll get all white, all black, or incomplete lace. I picked them out of the chicken house myself. I'm sure they were breeding stock so...

    White Rock Hen cross

Also the hens are about 18 months old. But do have very thick legs for a chicken.

    White Rock Hen cross

I've looked at the calculator. It all depends on which kind of white you choose. Not sure how you decide which white. White/white dominant/white recessive.

    White Rock Hen cross

I was thinking pure white for one gender and speckled for the other. But not sure. I haven't seen many pictures from crosses with SLW roo. But I agree from what I've seen, the hen has to carry the barring.

    White Rock Hen cross

Hi, I recently acquired some leftover hens from a chicken house that made hatching eggs. I am assuming they are white rocks (white bird/red earlobes). I have a Silver laced Wyandotte rooster and in the spring plan to hatch out some eggs from my mixed up flock to sell as live birds for meat...

    Meyer brown layer assortment

Quite a bit of different breeds. I ordered the 15 and probably received 4-5 different breeds. Seems like 2 or 3 per breed. Golden buff, RIR/NH and BR/Dom. The black ones are hard to figure out if they are different or not. I will mention I ordered 22 birds 15 assort, 3 SLW, 3 Gold Cuckoo Marans...

Anyone know if it is a Welsummer chick?

    Meyer brown layer assortment

Yes I thought as day old chick they were NHR or RIR. But the wing feathers coming in throw me off. Seem wrong for a NHR or RIR, but I don't have experience with many breeds as chicks. It is a straight comb.

Review by '' on item 'Plymouth Rock'

Love my barred rock hen. She is the leader of my flock. A little stubborn if I don't let her free range for long enough. She was friendly at first because the previous owner worked with her. Unfortunately, that vanished about 6 months of living with me as I did not handle her regularly. Great...

EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

My little chick that made it. It's 1 day past hatch date. The incubator is going just in case some more decided to join. But seems like a long shot. The chick seemed a little weak day 1 in the incubator. Lots of laying on his or hers belly. I moved it to the brooder and it took about 12 hours...

EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I did my first hatch on shipped eggs. I am a little confused about the air cell poistion. I have a styrofoam incubator with egg turner. The eggs were shipped pointy end down. I let them rest for a day pointy end down. I put them in the turner pointy end down. I candled a few times. 6 of the 17...
