Pullet attacked by dog, skin peeled off back and several punctures - save or euthanize?

As best I can determine the punctures are all north/south, really on her back. I'll examine her again after she rests a bit from the treatment. I didn't even think of broken ribs, how would I check for that? She can hold her head up and walk.

Pullet attacked by dog, skin peeled off back and several punctures - save or euthanize?

Should i try to save her, or is her suffering too great? One of my 3 month old pullets, a speckled Sussex, escaped her enclosure and landed in the jaws of my farm dog. He had her for a while before I went out and discovered the situation. All back feathers ripped out, sections of epidermis torn...

    Another year full of cockerels....

I have never had a roo since 014 when I started buying sexed chickens from My Pet Chicken, day old hatchlings, NOT auto-sexing. Have never received a male! I have 18 hens now, every one a different breed (because Allah loves wondrous variety :)).

URGENT baby chick scalped, how to treat

Thanks for the additional info. Very pleased to say she's eating, drinking and moving a bit, in a crate inside the house. If I need to use Betadine, do you pour it over the wound, or maybe use a syringe, or cotton swabs?

URGENT baby chick scalped, how to treat

I have a 5 week old Ancona that got out of the baby chick pen in with the hens, they scalped her. Removed all feathers and skin on top/back of her head. Massive open wound has been cleaned out with sterile water and sprayed with vetericyn, she's sleeping in a towel on a heating pad. If she...

Moving chicks outside in HUMID HEAT

Hi all, I've always moved my littles outside at 5-6 weeks, when mostly feathered, but I bought late this year and 5-6 weeks will be July/August (vs usual May). The temps here average 90 JulyAug, but the humidity is extreme - heat index in high 90s. Ok to move them out, or wait til September? Or...

Egg bound hen - help her pass on?

No, I've never had a lash egg. How would I know the difference if she hasn't passed it?

Egg bound hen - help her pass on?

She's in a large crate so I can see how much she's (not) eating and drinking, and no poop in the crate. Also hard to get calcium in her with no food intake - I do have liquid calcium, could use a small amount in a dropper.

Egg bound hen - help her pass on?

I have a 5-6 yo RIR who has been eggbound for ~ 72 hours. I have never had an eggbound hen, need help. Saw her in the penguin stance, tail down not eating, felt her abdomen, found the shape of a giant egg down low between her legs. Took her inside, soaked in warm water w Epsom salts 2x day...

Topic of the Week - Nest boxes

I have one row of nest 'boxes' at floor level and one row above that with a closet size dowel to make access to the upper boxes easier. My boxes are on the 10' wall of my coop; I used to separate the 10' nest box span into 12 or 18" wide boxes (I have a couple of hefty girls), but the hens all...

Large scabby growth on chicken belly

I have a lavender Orpington with a large scabby growth on her belly, centered near the base of her breastbone well below the crop but forward of her legs. It's almost like a goat's horn in texture and hardness; when I picked her up and felt the lump I assumed it was rock hard dried poop and took...

    What hatchery is the best?

I've ordered about 20 newly hatched chicks over the past few years from mypetchicken.com. Sexing has been 100% accurate, and all have arrived alive. Only one chick died, day after arrival, undersized and just failed to thrive. HOWEVER, I'm reconsidering my options because of a series of...
