@1cock2hens
I agree that PETA and other activists can exaggerate and even lie- which is certainly not ethical. But I believe that if we don't need to meat to survive then why kill? Obviously, our own lives and those of our species should always come first and foremost, but we should take other...
I always thought of vegans an unpractical, emotional bunch of hippies- that was until I started keeping my own chickens and had to kill the darling babies I'd hatched when they gang raped my girls. It broke my heart- but it had to be done or the girls would have died miserably.
I've only been a...
Thank you @oldhenlikesdogs and @The Golden Egg5.
I've just noticed that the worst of my turkeys has developed a cream coloured small-medium spot on the outer corner of his on the eye ball- it's definitely not a foreign object, it's some sort of growth.
I don't think it's a symptom of wet pox...
Thank you for replying Old hen. Initially I also thought it was foul pox, but the fact that that none of my other poultry have it and that it's the middle of winter in South Africa which means no mosquitoes is confounding
ha
My 6 month old turkeys have symptoms extremely similar to fowl pox- they have yellow growths on their heads that turn black and crusty, smelly, thick, clear discharge from nostrils and one of them has red swollen sinuses and one watery eye. However, it's winter in South Africa and there's no...

Hi eggcessive
Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to help. Yes, my turkeys are behaving normally, save for the odd crash into the walls ( poor things, they still can't see properly). Do you have any idea how or why they would get it?
I don't think they sell Tylan in South Africa. But I did give my turkeys Doxyclip 50%, on the packaging it refers to the treatment of bacterial respiratory and gastrointestinal problems- do you think this will help with MG?
Hi Eggceasive
Thank you for taking the time to reply- I really appreciate it!
The brooder has a plastic mesh floor so most of the droppings fall to a tray below which I change often. They do have some wheat straw sprinkles around on the floor.
There doesn't seem to be any bubbles in their eyes...
I have 10, sweet, 4 wk old turkey chicks. All seemed to be going well until, a week ago, the turkey's eyes started to look 'sleepy'. On a closer inspection i saw that the skin around the eye was thick and orange, causeing their eyes to close. At first i thought they had a respiratory infection...
Hi!
As summer is here where I live my turkeys have gone into broody mode. All seemed well until hatching day came....mother and chicks seemed to be getting on swimmingly, but when i came back to check them a few hours later one chick was dead! Its body seemed compressed as if it had been...
As I live in South Africa I can't get food specifically for goslings. I feed all my animals (even my dogs) homemade food and I find they are very healthy.
I have put the gosling by himself with a spare broody hen I had. They live in a chicken tractor so they do have access to grit, but prehaps...
No. The poor thing still bangs into things while walking because of her head so she can't really eat or drink by herself. At the moment I'm feeding her grated boiled egg with chopped greens and Brewers yeast ever 4 hours and I'm giving her water + vitamins+ probiotics ever 2hrs. Is this ok?
Thank you for all your help. As I live in South Africa I'm giving her human multi vitamins which contain VIT E and selenium. The condition hasn't improved noticeably yet, but it hasn't got worse. PHEW!
Will keep you updated on how she's doing. I'm sure she'll pull through...she's a fighter you...
Thank you for all your help. I don't live in America, I live in South Africa. Therefore there are very few products for poultry available. I've been giving the gosling a human multi vitamin and though the condition hasn't improved much it certainly hasn't got worse. PHEW! However the multi...
