    Sufficient Ventilation

It is an old wood shed. I guess I haven't seen moisture, I just think it smells like there could be. I better clean it out soon...

    Floor

This is excellent information. Thanks so much. It sounds like it would be worth my while. And I will keep that in mind about the shavings and concrete... didn't know how padded they are supposed to have it!

XL Tidy Cat buckets for nest boxes

KG in Oregon, thanks much for the info on how you built that! We built a covered, rectangular run next to our shed-converted-coop... but I'd love to have one of these sometime if we get a bigger yard!

Two free Barnevelder Roosters - Michigan - Need GONE!

Two of our "hen chicks" turned out to be roosters... and we can't keep any roosters. Beautiful birds, about 4-5 months old, came from an NPIP certified hatchery. Use them for breeding, a feathery alarm clock, or let them grow a little more & have a good chicken dinner! Free. Pick up near...

    Introducing Dogs to chickens

It's so cute to see the pictures of dogs and chickens! Haven't had my dog see them yet because the chickens haven't been in the run yet, but I'm thinking it will be okay. He's pretty friendly to everyone/other animals. He may just want to sniff them through the run.

Ideas to make the run a fun place for chickens

These are great ideas! And cheap; most things are laying around my yard already!

    Nesting Boxes????

Do you need to make the nesting boxes out of something that can be cleaned? Thinking about using those fabric crates (a shallow-lipped one) used for home storage.. but not sure how well they clean out...

XL Tidy Cat buckets for nest boxes

Those look great for nesting boxes. There are so many creative ideas on Pinterest. What is the name of your semi-circle coop called? Looks kind of like a greenhouse idea.....I like it...

    Sufficient Ventilation

Cute shed! This post was helpful because I also converted the back half of a shed into a coop. Put in one gable vent and one window, covered with hardware cloth for extra protection from predators. But it gets quite moist in there still and I think I need to add much more ventilation!

    First time coop builder! Paint.

That's super nice looking tile! Lol @ "Chicken Dance Floor". We joke that we used such nice materials in building our coop that we'd live there... it wasn't that expensive either. Just got nice wood melanine from Menard's ...

    Hemp bedding

Looks good! I'll have to follow this post as well because pine shavings are soooo dusty... I am hoping for an alternative...

    Nesting boxes

One more question - we found the egg on the floor in the evening. Who knows how long it had been there (all day while we were at work?)...is it still okay to eat if we grabbed it when we saw it and put it right in the fridge? Do eggs "go bad" if they are out for a day in the heat? Also, we are...

    Nesting boxes

Couple questions about nesting boxes as well.. Just got a hen yesterday that is already laying (my other five are too young still) - and didn't get a nesting box made for her yet. She laid one egg just on the ground in the coop, but is that bad that I don't have a box for her yet? How important...

Closing up the coop at night?

If you close them up in the coop during the night, do you still need to be wary of predators during the day? Can't say I've seen too many of those animals during the daytime, but do they come when you have chickens? I am not sure how predator proof my run is...

Closing up the coop at night?

That's what I've heard too.......all types of animals could be predators!
