Northwest Fresno CA.
From MPC.com, raised on lots of veggies and good quality food, she lays lovely blue eggs on a regular basis.
Pick up only! please message with any questions and I'll try to respond promptly!
Free egg-laying hen. "Tammy 3" is a silver laced Wyandotte (hatchery) and is 2 years old. she lays 3-4 eggs per week, but full disclosure they are a bit odd looking, rather bullet shaped and the ends are sometimes wrinkled.
She is NOT good with other hens that she perceives as 'weak', which is...
2x on the silkie, I think the first one might be a golden laced polish, and the splash one may be a silkie mix, possibly silkie x easter egger or americana.
I'm still new to chickens, so it's all a guess, either way they are a neat looking flock!
Hi guys, I'm getting the brooder set up for my 4 chicks that will arrive this week, it's my first time raising chicks without a Broody hen, so I'd love feedback on the set up :)
I didn't have any of those long screw thingys, so the heating pad, rack and towel are wired to the top and back of...
2x, also it's a good idea to be able to tell a cockeral from a pullet, every once in a while a disreputable craigslist seller will sell them as pullets...
I'm starting to get excited about this years batch of chicks, for the frist time I've ordered online (MPC) and have 2 Blue Americanas (sp?)...
Thank you for the info, I'm really new to chickens (so much to learn!) and Thank you so much for the advice to also post under the 'free' CL section, just a few hours after posting him there, he got a wonderful home with a bunch of older RIR's and some leghorns to teach him who's boss :)...
You're welcome! a few in a small coop should be fine, just make sure they have a lot of coverage when it rains, their feathers don't repel water like normal chicken feather do, so they can get soaked!
I'm hoping to keep some silkies myself, they're just so irresistible (I've got to wait until...
Silkies are a wonderful breed, but from what I've read you probably shouldn't keep them with standard size birds (especially the Rhode Island Reds, they can be aggressive ) they do better with other bantams or chicks that they were raised with. They're so sweet that they'll get picked on by...
Thanks :)
Oh, neat! I guess she'll look a lot like her 'Aunt' Olive (She's a Jersey Giant from the flock Shelly's egg came from) they have the same iridescent black feathers and lovely dark eyes.
Update: y'all were right Shelly is a little pullet, she's still nice but more skittish and I just noticed that 2 of her feathers are white tipped! not a color I expected to see on her! could this be her welsummer genes? or some recessive white gene?
Still available, have posted him on craigslist also but no luck finding a home where he won't be dinner :(
also he's 12 weeks old now, I just can't figure out how to edit the post (smacks forehead) no crowing yet and he's nice to the hens and pullet he lives with.
Sounds like a lovely mix, I'm hoping to order too, I wanted some Olive eggers but they're pretty much sold out and I'm not sure I want to wait until June to get them :(
My plan was 2 Olive eggers, 2 Black copper marans and 2 Blue Ameraucanas, the BCM and Ameraucanas have excellent availability...
Thanks, now that he's past the awkward stage he's getting rather handsome, his tail feathers are getting a great iridescent sheen (why do roosters have to be so darn good looking!)
BSL = Black Sex-Link (unless I messed that abbreviation up, a definite possibility) it's not a pure breed, but...
Still available, We wish we could keep him but our next-door neighbor is a very angry lawyer who will throw a temper tantrum the moment he crows :(
He's 9 weeks old now, here is his latest picture:
