Make sure hubby is ok with all his stuff being covered by a layer of chicken dust! lol We have a garage that we bought just for my brooders and when he saw how much space was unused, my husband moved some tools in. They're constantly covered with a thick layer of dust. I personally don't care if...
I've seen a lot of chicks get dropped and be perfectly fine. I wouldn't worry about separating him unless he's getting picked on. There's really nothing you can do but wait it out, but I bet he's just fine.
If he hasn't been injured I would guess Mareks disease. Look it up and see if his symptoms match. If you think he injured his legs, then there's probably nothing to be done but wait for it to heal. (like when you pull a muscle) It doesn't seem likely though, they usually use their wings when...
Any idea what could have happened? Obvious injury? Does it look funny? Blood? Without seeing it or knowing anything else I'd say it was probably injured by another chick. You can separate them until you figure it out in case it's getting picked on.
I can't agree with all of this. I "went big". Big means lots of coops, feed by the ton, saw dust by the truck load, bales and bales of straw.....and inspections and blood tests that will cost you a serious chunk of your profits! Not to mention the hours of cleaning coops, washing feed and water...
My body is always sore and achy after coop cleaning. Shoveling dirty bedding is hard...that stuff is heavy! Seriously though, unless your chickens are seriously over crowded 2 weeks isn't bad.
They probably caught a cold/flu from somewhere else. Rest easy....the last known transmission of...
His feathers will regrow on their own. You can add extra protein to his diet to help his body make the new feathers. Meal worms, scrambled eggs, peanut butter, yogurt or even leftover dinner meats like beef, turkey, pork and even chicken. No ham, bacon or anything overly salted.
I would at least butterfly that flap down. Pluck or clip feathers so the bandages stick to the skin, but you want it to heal closed....not dry out wide open. Preferably suture it....but if you don't have them on hand, hold it closed with band aids butterfly style.
Good luck
