    Thank you Egg: The dog and I didn't make any noise. The ladies were just up and wandering around quietly as if it was daytime. I checked the roost and nothing appeared amiss. I think something must have startled them. I should imagine they will have an early night and be back to normal tomorrow :)

    Im not an expert but would think it depends on whether there are predators close by. In our neighbourhood we have racoons, so keep an eye out for them. Dogs can also be a problem if you aren't well fenced. Do you have neighbours with chickens? You could ask them their experience. Good luck...
