I've never had a problem with roosters I've even had 50%+ at one time or another. Same with introducing new birds I just throw them in and watch for a bit and there's usually not a problem. That being said I might just be super lucky. 1 roo for every 5-12 hens sounds pretty good to me.
I learned not to long ago that you need a permit for non domestic quail. I also recently learned in my area of oklahoma they generally don't give a darn reguardless. I would get one to be safe if you were selling alot but I doubt I would bother otherwise. That's just me though.
At the feed store I work in alot of customers feed 14% small creep to their chickens and 3 way feed, has anyone on here tried this? Also has anyone tried super scratch? I looks like good stuff.
What is chicken people? Is it a series, or a documentary, etc. Also why horse barns? And any suggestions on where to get leg bands? I think I've seen them at atwoods, but we might have some at my job.
Until this coming spring I'm planning to save a couple thousand+ to build a large breeding setup for Amuricana chickens. I'm still working out how I want to set it up any ideas? I'm definitely am adding auto waterers, and I already have 3 small incubators. I would like to be able to keep an eye...
They're doing great! I have plans to build a bigger pen already, and I bought a few more pideons. I started a new job at a feed store and I'm learning tons. My next plan is to join a pideons club.
No kidding I'd much rather have this as an addiction! I just need to find some kinda club now local to me for pideons, shouldn't be to hard in oklahoma.
Wow tons of good info here, I can already tell how addictive it can be lol. I'm afraid I'll end up with atleast a few lofts in the next year or so. It doesn't help I work at a feed store and have enough scrap materials to build coops with since my family has a construction business lol.
Hello, I was at a swap meet and had several pideons given to me, he said they were show birds. Lahore and Russian tumblers I think. Can anyone confirm these are those breeds? Also any tips for raising them? Are they prone to disease like rabbits? Any info is appreciated.
They're looking great! I picked a few chicks up at auction last night, I post a few pics in a bit. Had some show pideons given to me too, it'll be interesting to see how that goes, I've never messed with them before.
I bet youd love the lavender orphingtons then, they're great bird, I'm sure if you were so inclined they'd be decent eating too. Overall they're hardy, and good utility with them. Not to mention they usually sell really well. They have ameraucanas that are sort of a lavender color as well. I...
