This is chick starter non-medicated. The reason I didn't get turkey starter is because all they have here is medicated. I have read a lot about protein levels for quail and 20-22% seems to be optimal for birds that are more than 2 months old which mine are. -

I have one silver coturnix quail who lays down all the time. Whenever I look into their cage, the others are running around foraging and eating while it just lays in the corner, the only time he moves is when I put my hand in there near him, he doesn't seem to be injured either....any idea what... -

However, a friend of mine had coturnix quail and just gave them what he was feeding his chickens, I think it was like 16-18% protein and they layed... -

I have 10 quail together, have not sexed them yet as the males are not really producing the 'foam'. Yes, I'm in Alberta, Canada and the temperatures have been in the -20's Celsius. I have them in a very toasty heated coop with 16 hours of light right now but I am not sure if they had light from their previous owner. I am relieved there are some girls there!
