    D'uccle Thread

Thought I'd give my 2 cents....I have serama and d'uccle together, they have laid eggs several times and hatched them out. What I think you want to know is whether you should separate your hens....it depends. Mine all live in a 15 x 20 covered pen with a coop inside. They get along great. I...

    Creative coyote deterrents?

Did not read all answers, but if no one has mentioned it....try predator pee....yes there is a product called that. They have a great website that you can list what animals you are trying to deter and they will recommend which pee to use. It was a great adjunct to our hot wire and enclosed...

NEED HELP WITH COSTS>>>>>Neighbors dog killed my whole flock ....

As others have said, the only way to protect your flock is with electricity. We tried everything, and then figured out (from this website) that two strands of electrical wire around the perimeter of our run/coop is the way to go. Put the first wire at about 8 inches and the second at 15...

    Carolina Chickenstock Spring 2013

My best advice would be to make sure you get your coop completed and predator-proofed before the chickenstock. There are so many great breeds of chickens available, just spend some time looking through the breed threads. I found that of all the chickens I have owned, my favorite for being both...

    Parakeet Incubating

Male budgies that are mature have very dark blue ceres (nostrils) and the females have beige to pink. Sounds like it is SHE who is sitting the eggs. Are you sure you do not have two females? Good luck in any case.

    Indispensable Features?

Great thread! I found out the hard way (losing my favorite chickens to dogs! Fox and coons ! ARGGH) The number 1 thing we did right this time (our third coop build) is to have electricity and run two hot wires around the coop/run about 6 inches off the ground and the next wire at about 10...

    D'uccle Thread

I happened to end up with a really loud d'uccle. He is as loud as any full sized roosters I have owned. He really makes me appreciate how quiet my serama is. There is probably a lot of variation though...I think I have an exceptionally loud fella.

    CAROLINA CHICKENSTOCK FALL 2012

Thanks for the clarification. Thought I was out of the loop on something new. May come to the Morganton show if I can somehow get up early.....insomniac. I think it would be great if we started a thread for people who attended chickenstock's 2012 so people can keep up with each other...

    D'uccle Thread

I don't know if I can embed a link to a youtube video that shows cintronnen d'uccle. It is a foreign language posted video but I have never seen anything like these birds. Has anyone in the US been breeding anything like these? Well I tried and couldn't get it to work, but look up...

    D'uccle Thread

After losing dozens of chickens to coons we added two hot wires. One is 6 inches off the ground, the higher one is about 6 or 7 inches above that. We have electricity near our coop so we bought an inexpensive charger at Tractor Supply. (Solar chargers are more expensive). Since we did this we...

    CAROLINA CHICKENSTOCK FALL 2012

I'd say that the percentage of inhumane was smaller at this swap. But I agree that maybe it should be posted that the organizers have the right to ask anyone not complying with basic care to leave. Most of the folks I met/saw were taking very good care of their chickens and I thought the turn...

    CAROLINA CHICKENSTOCK FALL 2012

Welcome to Fall Chickenstock 2012. Don't know which hwy you are coming up, but we stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Conover (off Exit 131 I think) for several months before moving to Hickory and it was clean, good hot breakfast comes with the room. Great staff. I also hear there is a nice...

    CAROLINA CHICKENSTOCK FALL 2012

You never know when you are going to meet a new chicken person. Our phone went out and the Centurylink guy heard my rooster crowing and wanted to see the chickens. He has four of his own. I told him about Chickenstock and he is really excited about coming and bringing his kid and his dad! So...

    ~*CAROLINA CHICKENSTOCK "SPRING" 2012*~

My serama's have gone into egg laying overdrive...so if anyone is interested in a dozen eggs for hatching...let me know and I will bring them. They come from a variety of hens, white, pumpkin and the rooster is mottled.
