After bathing one of my girls this morning I found some lice on her, she is not infested, but of course I'm terrified! I have a tube of horse dewormer on hand, can I use a small amount on all 80ish chickens to treat for lice? Or do I need to get liquid? Thank you for any advice, this is a first...
She was out of her little mind with worry about her babies, so I pulled some eggs from the incubator for her and she settled right in to mommy mode. The world could learn so much from these amazing little ladies!
That is a very kind offer, and I thank you so much! First thing is to build a safe and big coop. Hopefully their offspring will hatch. Fingers crossed!
Thank you all for your condolences! We are all very sad, but I am hopeful that of the 13 eggs of theirs in the incubator that we may hatch a few. I'll name the first one Phoenix for sure. They had such loving personalities ☹️ they have all been accounted for, and will be given a proper burial...
Thank you. Unfortunately the heat lamp issue was due to it being in a brooder box inside of the coop. If I had a guess, I'd say that one of the Easter egger teenagers must have jumped in the box and knocked the light down. I also lost my most special girl last week to a hawk, and built another...
Lost 6 layers, and 9 babies early this morning after the heat lamp had fallen and caught fire. I feel so stupid. I should have known better, I should have planned better. They weren't just chickens, they were my happy place. Thankfully my silkies all made it (they were in a pen beside of the...
This is what I am thinking also, I am going to give a warm bath and I gave some olive oil. I'm not sure how exactly to massage it, I don't want to hurt her.
I have a polish chick, the last of 3, that has suddenly started having a turrets twitch, and out of nowhere a huge tumor-like growth (about the size and shape of an egg) . It is still eating and drinking, and still social and acting ok otherwise. Any ideas? I don't want to lose this one, it is...
Thank you all for your feed back thus far, I apologize if the information I'm giving is unclear. After 4 years, I'm realizing how much of a newbie I am!
Yes, very normal. It is not walking on it at all, just laying on one side with the foot extended outward, but if I get it out it will stand without putting weight on the one. Can dislocated legs be fixed without a vet?
Sorry for the confusion, the red dot is what I was referring to. According to the diagram it would be the knee (where fibula and femur meet). It isn't putting any weight on it at all. Taking the following picture is the first I have seen it stand up straight. But in the other picture you can see...
