    Got my baby Ameraucanas today!!!

We just drove to Whitmore Farm (whitmorefarm.com) in western Maryland and picked up our first flock of chickens! We ordered eight, but the owner was nice and gave us an extra so we can hope to get enough hens. It was a great trip and our babies are doing well in the brooder. Now I just need to...

    Got chicks today

Lucky you, you got chicks!!! I can't wait till mine come. I also have a 250 bulb in a small brooder, but I can barely get the temp to 95. Those that don't use them, are your chicks in the house or something else where the ambient temp is already high?

Coop Plans - How many chickens?!

Depends on who you ask, but I have heard: 2-4sq ft coop space per chicken (so your coop can handle about 6-12) 5 or 10 sq ft run space per chicken (so your run can handle 8 or 4). And two layers per 1sq ft box (so 12) But I am very interested in what others have to say.

Welcome to BYC, it is a great forum and people have been real kind so far! I feel like it is facebook without the negativity So I am at this same cross roads so can only repeat what I am using to justify a chicken tractor. We don't have a huge yard and have no fences between us and the...

Topic of the Week - Raising Chicks

This is my brooder. But it is based on theoretical knowledge only . I have it in our below ground basement where the temperature is constantly 55 degrees and with the lamp I can get it up to 95 degrees inside the brooder. Under the pine shavings is a folded tarp so when I need to "change the...
