I was waiting for 36 eggs to hatch and then I had a storm with a power outage for 6 to 8 hours and had so far 12 hatch virtually all white and some black, weird part is I don't have any white chickens. Genetics can sometimes be quite strange. Cheers Paul
I agree Turk, I used to breed Rottweiler Dogs and I used to dock their tails and due claws at 3 or 4 days old they would just have the slightest discomfort for a second and the reason I know that is they would not even stop drinking while suckling on the mother. So the do gooders have no idea...
I agree about the combs but in Australia now illegal to cut the combs.I have had most of the young 50% with the comb like the Indian Game (Cornish) and if you select the cock with that comb almost all the young have that comb. Cheers Paul
They are certainly not the prettiest chicken but decent size. I have always believed that the Jersey Giants and the Brahma Chickens to be the biggest chickens breed wise, I have seen naken necks but they have been more like a bantam in size or in a Game style fowl. Anyway all good. Cheers Paul
I have heard of Turkens, I will check them out. Yes sorry about your dad I lost mine to so not cool. They might be called something else here or they don't have them. Cheers Paul
Sorry Turk, yes I was talking to you. eldonrgv that is a good looking chicken I think he will end up a good size as he is still young and growing. Cheers Paul
You know I have found the Brahma Chickens the fastest and biggest of the dual use chickens as in meat and eggs. They are quite difficult to get in Australia but crossed with the Cornish they are huge fast growing and extremely calm offspring in general. Especially the 2n cross. Check them out...
That definitely works, if you cross the offspring back to each other. They are big all round heavy and grow fast the first cross is a little lanky but heavy but the 2nd cross is an awesome meat bird and in my opinion a little more resistant to most things. In Australia the Indian Game (Cornish)...
The Road Island red, Brahma or Light Sussex over a Indian Game Hen (Cornish) definitely gives you a bigger bird with longer legs, the breast is still the same as the pure Cornish but they move much easier and I don't find they are picked on as much in a mixed flock. Cheers Paul
I have done a bit of research on this and having a Indian Game (Cornish) as the Rooster means the egg laying ability is set by the Rooster which means not a lot of eggs being laid so a slow process. I have put a Brahma Rooster over a Indian Game hen means big fast growing chicks which will lay...
Yes that is the next thing for me. I went to the vet to get tablets for the Fowl Flu and it cost me a $100 and it died the next day. She gave me Antibiotics and the Sulfur 3 worked much better from the produce. I will take a chicken there and see what happens. Cheers Paul
Yes and they seemed to drink more than the others. I am now around 50 and I have had chickens since I was 5 and best friends father bred, showed and judged English Game Bantams and standard. I have never gad so much hassle. Cheers Paul
