Final update, francis seemed weaker this morning but was still holding on, eyes were more open but struggling to get around more. Cleaned and fed her, she had a sleep, woke up peeping wobbling around, so I picked her up to give her some water, she shook her head side to side 5 or 6 times then...
Nope, and what's 90 in Celsius?! I don't like heat pads (previously kept reptiles) and never found them good. I have a hot water bottle I could use though?
We haven't a brooder nor heat source, it's 7pm on Saturday night so can't get anything until tomorrow. We raised chicks in the house previously without heat, yes they didn't have any injuries but they were fine. Please don't make me feel like we're failing her or not doing things right. I've...
She has a woolly hat to snuggle under and it's been pretty warm here today, she doesn't feel cold but shivers when she's sleepy. Should I add heat?
She seems to do it when she wants attention, feeding or water then settles down to sleep.
Just cleaned her up again, read about blu-kote and found...
Thank you, just had a read through so will follow the tips!
So now I'm less worried about the scalping :thumbsup but I'm still worried about the eyes! Anyone had experience with closed over eyes?
She's eating chick mash (as advised above!) and peeps constantly whilst awake, tries to snuggle...
Thank you for your help and advice!
She seems a little weaker this afternoon, very sleepy but is moving around a bit more, I've tucked her up for a sleep so once she's back awake I'll give it another clean and more cream on.
Her eyes are both closed and we're concerned about quality of life...
We lost one as expected but the other made it through the night! Seems a bit stronger but both eyes are closed over. I'm using coconut oil to keep moisturised in the hope it'll ease open through the day. She's drinking from a dropper and searching out bits of chick crumb. Glimmer of hope :)
Thank you so much! We have savlon or sudacream? Or aloe Vera gel?
These seemed pretty weak from hatching and we've lost a few from this batch during hatching so I don't quite know what's happened. Our rooster always charges at us but is so protective over his hens and young.
We were hoping...
please help! I'm absolutely heartbroken. These chicks hatched yesterday and we're fine about an hour ago. One of our children has just found them like this. Is there anything we can do? The one is almost gone but the other night have some fight left.
I'm so desperate to help them. There is an...
Thank you! I haven't checked on her yet today but my husband tried to make her sick (following the instructions in the article) and only managed to get a bit of fluid out nothing else, he teed for a good 15mins. As he lets them out before I'm up I asked him to check her first, I haven't spoken...
Thank you, they all seem to be things that happen quick and if not sorted quickly the chicken will not survive. However it's been 11wks since it started and she's only just getting sick?
Hi!
Long one sorry!
Bit of back story, about 11wks ago one of our hens looked like she was getting fatter, fast forward to now and she's not been able to get up the ramp (walk or fly) to their coop for the last 2 nights but gets down in a morning fine and is a bit slower moving around than...
Thank you!
We've been looking and think we've decided on 75x75mm fence posts for the corners and a central support in the longer sides. Then something like 38x87 for tips of the sides and across each panel to give a bit more support. Going to ring a local saw mill tomorrow and see what they charge
hi!
We currently have a large run built using picket fencing with a green net over the top. It's functional but not pretty with the net!
We have a small shed that is solid and hardly used. There is space around it to create a 4m long by 2.3m wide run and convert the shed to a coop.
But...
