I'm sure they will love their new space!
Good luck with your surgery. My twin sister had jaw surgery a little over three years ago. She was really down for a couple of weeks but was back to doing mostly everything (probably more than she should have been doing!) after awhile ...well, other than...
Well, it's officially happened... I went on a week long vacation and came home to one less chicken. :hitIt was Buttercup (the chicken in my icon), which is hard. Who knew chickens could get their way into your heart so much!
On a brighter note, our Jersey Giants are doing great! The originals...
How did everyone fair with the storms yesterday?
We are slowly trying to integrate the two chicks into the flock and it seems to be going well... It's been going on for a couple weeks now, and they aren't uptight around each other anymore but there is still some progress that needs to be made...
Our Basil and Cilantro died! I'll be getting more today, and moving over to another box. I hope it grows good because those are the two things I am always most excited about!
I did have a cat whose liver failed from what the vet said was either eating a Lily or eating a mouse who had poisoned. I'm not sure of all of the science behind it, but it definitely made me wary of using any sort of poison around the house (we never had, so it must have come from somewhere...
Yesterday was our garden day... We got out our oregano, basil, rosemary, cilantro, tomatoes, squash, corn and peppers in our vegetable and herb garden and than planted a few plants around the chicken run. We'll see how those do... We have clay dirt which makes gardening pretty hard in certain areas.
It was a crazy weekend, but I did manage to grab a picture of my other girls.
This is Rin. I think she is the easiest for my to identify but...I'm new to this and I could definitely be wrong:
This is Crimson. She is one of our best egg layers!
And just a little chick to hopefully...
I love photography, but need to get better at getting photos of my chickens... They like to come running when I'm taking pictures of anyone else though
Maybe now that it is warming up a bit I'll try and grab some new ones. I've gotten a biiiit lazy.
I love seeing everyones horses! They all look so wonderful!
Here is a picture of Addie, our Thoroughbred!
I need to grab pictures of the other two as well... But I'll wait until they've finished shedding...and I'm not feeling a bit lazy!
All of my cats have been dumped off into our area by owners who didn't want them. I always think it's surprising, because they all have such personality! We are trying to keep it at the four we have but this Winter I have seen four other cats come in... We've thought about doing the catch, fix...
I'm always excited to see horse people! Between my sister and I we have a Thoroughbred, a QH, and a Hackney Pony (the horse love of my life!)!
Never a dull moment...
Thank you for the advice on introducing the giants! I've never had to introduce any before, so I've been nervous. My four are free range right now, so hearing the different ways is very informative.
I don't have very good pictures of all of my girls here at work, but here are a couple... I'll...
Thank you so much for the welcome @redsoxs - it is wonderful to meet you!
I live near Derby! Thank you for the link, I will definitely read up on that before I do anything with the chicks.
Thank you @chicken danz
My name is Arden - I live near Derby, KS, so just about 20 or so minutes from Wichita. We have three horses, some ducks, and six chickens (and cats.).
We have two new Jersey Giants that still have some growing to do before they are fully introduced to the rest of the...
Hi from Kansas!
I have had chickens for about a year now. We bought our original four in a box of different breeds, so I can honestly admit that I'm not 100% sure on all of their breeds... In March we added two Black Jersey Giants to the flock (well, after they get big enough of course!), and...
