    Gender/Breed of Bird?

I'm not around the bird right now, but I don't think it has 5 toes. I think I would've noticed it before, but I could be wrong.

    Gender/Breed of Bird?

Sorry. Forgot to put age... I'd say it's roughly 3 months old.

    Gender/Breed of Bird?

I got this beautiful bird from a batch of eggs that I ordered from My Pet Chicken, and I believe the egg was labeled "Super Chocolate Egg Layer," but I have no idea what breed or gender this bird is. It doesn't have much for curls on it's tail feathers yet, and there's too much going on with...

Crested Cream Legbar. Cockerel or Pullet?

I was thinking so, because it has the chipmunk striping. I've been used to sexlink hatchlings, so the little dot threw me off a little. Thank you for helping me out!

Crested Cream Legbar. Cockerel or Pullet?

I just recently hatched this little one and I'm not too familiar with CL's. I've read into this and found that pullets tend to have a small head spot like this, but I wanted the opinion from someone who has been around these guys for a while. Any ideas?

    How to raise friendly chicks?

Personally hatched chicks are the best, but it all comes down to personality. Some will be as tame as dogs, and they'll have their tempers and such. Then you'll have some that don't like human interaction whatsoever, even if you hand fed them from birth and spend countless hours with them to get...

    Stargazing Day Old Chick

I'm in the process of treating our little one. It was the first to hatch, and it was in the incubator for about 4 hours before I looked back and realized it was constanly looking straight up and was doing backflips. I took it out after making sure the other eggs haven't piped and put it in the...

Chicks have weird bumps on beak!! Please help with the diagnosis

It looks like bruising to me, probably biting and fighting as little chicks do. It looks like it's trying to heal with the first bird, the second one is kind of harder to tell. Keep a close eye and make sure it doesn't grow, because it could be a beak disease of sorts or malnutrition of sorts...

two dead hens in a matter of 3 days

I live in Texas, and the last 2 months were pretty brutal for my chickens. I have a back porch I added on to my house, and the chickens LOVE getting under it because of how cool it gets for them. The best way to cool them off is to keep them out of direct sunlight in the heat of the day, and...

Day 24, alive but not hatching help!

I agree with Pyxis, You never trust what the incubator says, unless you get commercial hatchery incubators(even then, I would probably trust my own instruments). A separate, reliable thermometer and hygrometer will go a long ways in terms of hatching success. I've done it without Hygrometers...

incubated eggs always die at day 14!

I always use a second thermometer. Unless you have an expensive commercial incubator, NEVER trust the temp readers that come with them, find a thermometer you can confirm to be correct and use it.

No air sac, but I hear peeping.

It "breathes" oxygen through the egg shell, which is why it's imperative to have vent holes in your incubator. They don't breathe until they break the shell. Don't worry, it will be fine.

    Coop Size Question

Looks like the other guys explained it pretty well, but I have a couple of little things to add, from my experiences and such. Make sure to research a little on the particular breeds you have, because some don't take confinement well and they'll need more space. Also, I've learned that it's...

    Hatching eggs on ebay

If you can't get the breed you want locally, Ebay is great. However, I wouldn't spend any more than $50 for rare or "proven bloodline" breeds on Ebay. If you're looking for rare or expensive breeds then take the time to research them thoroughly, along with the Sellers you find, and BE PATIENT...

My Chicken is not active and is opening her mouth

Polish Chickens are more susceptible to colds and diseases than the typical breed. I've never owned any myself, but a friend of mine used to have a lot and she would have problems with colds after being in the rain for a while and a few with cerebral hernias. I'm definitely no expert, but colds...

    Black Ameracauna Vs. Silver Ameraucana

Which of these two do you prefer? I've had BBS and EE's, but now I'm wanting to get a little more into my flock. I'd get a roo of one of these variants to compliment these and my current flock.

Looking for Black or True Silver Ameraucana

Looking for Black or True Silver Ameraucana hatching eggs, whichever one is fine(Preferably within the standard). I'm looking to get roughly a dozen or so to start off with, and it may take a week or two before I'm ready to start making any commitment. I just want to find someone who knows where...
