Hello all! I am relatively new to BYC and to raising chickens. I am not sure if there is a way to search just our "Arizona" forum, so please forgive me as I am sure this must have been covered somewhere along the way... Does anyone in Tucson know of a processor that will process our non-laying...
Welcome- I am still a newbie but reading and absorbing info daily. This is a great site! I have 5 hens; 2 gold sex links, 2 black sex links, and 1 Dominique. I have noticed that the Dom gets picked on the most, which is a shame cause she was the sweetest. The last time I held her she was...
I have a gold sex link that has been laying for a week now... I have gotten 5 eggs from her in 7 days. Not bad. I think a couple others are close. I put out some oyster shell and a few them started partaking...so I figure withing the next week to two weeks I should have two more laying. One of...
I had my first egg yesterday and it was a good size and had a double yolk. We got another today, but it was much smaller. I have 5 hens (2 gold sexlinks, 2 blacks sexlinks, and 1 Dominique), got them all at the same time, but only one Gold Sexlink is laying. They are all 18 weeks.

Eggselent! I got my 1st egg today. I have only 5 hens, so hopefully the rest of the girls will follow suit! I was very surprised that the first egg was pretty large and had a great shell. I was expecting a weak shelled wobbler for the first few. It looks like you got all hard shelled eggs also...
Yeah....I understand about the heat. I'm in Tucson also I only have 5 hens and I was so worried. I just let the coop be muddy. I figure muddy is cooling for hippos. I hope you didn't lose any others.
I'm so sad to hear this! I'm sorry. I think feeding watermelon really has helped my flock. I also gave electrolyte in their water. I'm new to this so I can't really what is right or wrong.
I'm in Tucson and this is my first summer with chickens- they are 15 weeks. I have a mister going, a fan, and we take out a shallow container full of ice water. Once they have had their fill drinking out of it they stand in it to cool down. I can't tell you how much they love the ice water. I...
