What predator leaves just the chicken feet?

Sorry it cut off my first part! Both killings happened during mid afternoon, not at night. One in middle of pasture (free range) and the other was inside my fenced off garden area.

What predator leaves just the chicken feet?

That was where it selected the juvenile roo to kill and depluck (it’s feathers were everywhere and mostly it’s down not it’s top feather coat) and then left nothing but it’s feet. We live in southern Indiana There are raccoons, Fox, possums, hawks, eagles and coyotes. But I have never had a...

What predator leaves just the chicken feet?

I have had two losses in last couple days. The first was when hens were free ranging. A silkie bantam went missing and a pile of feathers left. Today a juvenile silkie rooster was killed inside my (7ft wood) fenced off garden area. There was a big pile of feathers, and then a few smaller areas...

Can first generation silkie cross chicks have silkie feathering?

Can first generation silkie cross chicks have silkie feathering? So this chick was a surprise hence her name SURI. My white silkie roo was about 8mos and was taken by a fox the day this chick popped out of an egg from under my broody silkie frizzle girl. I had tried everything to break her...

7 month silkies. Boy or Girl? I still cannot tell!

UPDATE: White and Cuckoo started to crow!!! BUT Cuckoo laid an egg yesterday is that normal?!?! To crow (weakly) and lay egg? I’m so confused!!! And yes I do know for a fact it was her that laid an egg. Watched her the entire time. No egg in nest, tiny mini FIRST egg in nest.

7 month silkies. Boy or Girl? I still cannot tell!

I have no idea. I’m horrible at Silkie genetics, but I know there are some experts on here that would answer your question. You might just have to start a new post in the genetics page though..

7 month silkies. Boy or Girl? I still cannot tell!

I got the 7month old white and cuckoo from same breeder, these were her growout rejects because of incorrect comb (on white Silkie) and wrong coloring on cuckoo. Her birds are all gorgeous though. And the white 2yo pullet I got from a Utah breeder that has AMAZING silkies. She was working on a...

7 month silkies. Boy or Girl? I still cannot tell!

I would be shocked if both were girls. I’ve been thinking boy from early on with the white one. But I’m only right 50% of the time when it comes to sexing these silkies. They always throw me for a loop right around that 6month mark.

7 month silkies. Boy or Girl? I still cannot tell!

Haha. Usually the girls don’t lay until after 6mos. Mine always started closer to 8mos which is crazy I know haha. My roosters always started to crow around 5/6mos. I actually had one that crowed at 11/12wks which is WAY early for silkies. But that was an anomaly!!

7 month silkies. Boy or Girl? I still cannot tell!

The cuckoo definitely acts like a girl but I’ve never had a silkie with the bright red warty comb. So that’s the part that was throwing me off!!

7 month silkies. Boy or Girl? I still cannot tell!

I’m having troubles sexing two of my silkies. A white 6month old and a cuckoo 7 month old. Usually my Silkie roos start showing their male dominance around 4/5mos and start crowing around 6months. But these two have me stumped!!! I’m pretty sure the white is a boy, small comb but he definitely...

Broody Hen isn’t accepting new chicks

I have done this before but not with this particular hen. So I just assumed all broody mamas accept chicks if they are around the same age and put together within first 24hours. I didn’t even know chickens could see color?! But I’m thoroughly confused slashed amazed at how she can tell the two...

Broody Hen isn’t accepting new chicks

Hi!! So my Silkie hen was broody, and hatched out 2 chicks. I put 2 (same age) Silkie chicks under her on night two. Two eggs were still under her and not viable (I candles on day 22). I followed all the rules...took the eggs out and replaced with chicks under her at night. Woke up the next day...

    silkies

I got them from a friend of a friend. Two of them have it under the eye. Same mass thing. Same eye. They are about 5wks old.

silkie chick with bump under eye

No sneezing or runny eyes. And it's hard lump but moves if I touch it, if that makes sense two of them have it from their hatch.
