    Getting mixed up...deep litter

I'm in New England (AKA: Massalaska) and I'm having a rough time with my coop. I have sand on the poop board, but since it's been so frigid, the poop is literally frozen solid and stuck to the bottom of the board...I can't even scrape it off! Also, I have sand in the run as well, but since...

Help! My chicken is biting me!

All 4 chickens look pretty much the same- 2 cinnamon queens and 2 NH Reds. Some are a little larger than others, but their combs/wattles are all equal in size, so I don't think she's a Rooster.

    Wondering about oyster shells

Hello all - I am currently using sand in my chicken coop (on the poop tray and in the run) I'm seeing all kinds of stuff about having to feed them grit and oyster shells. Do I have to give them those things if they have sand in their coop? Sand gets in their waterer all the time, so I know...

Hello all - this is my first time with chickens and I have 4. They are just 17 weeks so now I'm waiting for them to lay eggs. What I'm wondering is - are there any indicators (other than the obvious) that they are preparing to lay an egg? Will I just go out one morning and find an egg...

Why won't my chickens eat food scraps?

My chickens wouldn't eat any scraps I gave them either ....at first. Now, at 17 weeks, they go to town on corn cobs, the tops of strawberries, the ends of green beans, and yesterday bananas. I was thinking the same as you a while back, like ..I thought chickens ate EVERYTHING? I would put a...

That just answered one of the questions I had, thank you! I'm new to keeping chickens, and mine just moved into the coop 3 nights ago. Do you give them access to food and water all day and just let them "graze" or feed them just in the morning and evening?

    Very chirpy chicks!

Ok thank you...they seem to be doing fine. I don't see anything that seems like they are uncomfortable, they like to hang out with each other which is so cute when they snuggle, I love watching them!
