I just learned about toe punching and I'm very curious to know what the adult birds look like with their toes punched. Does anyone have photos? Can't seem to find any online. Thanks
Looks awesome, good job. Does your fencing go into the ground at all? In my area predators would dig under, we have to bury fencing a few feet down. Such a pain.
Crack an egg you think might be fertile next to an egg that is not fertile (store bought egg).
The fertile egg will have a bullseye in the middle of the yolk. Look carefully for a little white spot. Unfertilized do not have the bullseye. It's pretty easy once you know what to look for.
Four hens and a rooster. The hens are between 1 and 2 years old and are laying beautiful blue medium sized eggs. $160 for all of them pickup near Ottawa Ontario Canada
Bottom six eggs in photo are Cream Legbar eggs
I love the lacing on the BLRWs, a friend just gave me a rooster and I'm wondering what a BLRW x black Ameraucana hen will give me?
I also was thinking of putting him with my splash Ameraucana hen.
Will the lacing be dominant? I would love some laced EE's. I understand the colour in the lacing...
Everything appears to be tight and well screwed in.
We just swapped the entire wafer assembly. It managed to get up to 95 degrees and now the temp is falling again.
We replaced the heating element.
It's still not getting up to temp nor holding temps.
Any thoughts?
I'm having trouble finding...
I thought I had posted yesterday too but it's not showing up in my started threads?
Nor did it show up when I searched the site. So maybe it disappeared?
So... I have a question.
If I breed blue barred x blue barred, obviously that will give me a portion splash, blue and black.
In a barred bird what does the splash end up looking like?
Do they mostly look all white with a few splashes of colour?
Bonus points for anyone who has a pic lol.
Maybe this is a weird question, but if I breed a blue barred bird with a blue barred bird, obviously you will get some splash, blue and black. However- what would the splash show up as? Would the bird just look all splash with no apparent barring?
Bonus if you can post photos of a "splash"...
That is great info, thanks! I spent most of yesterday looking into this. I'm going to order a wafer first and see. Hopefully that's all it is. I have eggs waiting to be incubated :(
I know the difference between them, I've owned both before. 1583 has a wafer thermostat and 1588 has the electronic.
When I owned the 1588 I had to return it for a replacement as something went wonky with the thermostat within a week of using it.
I can get either of these for the same price...
Unplugged it then plugged it back in, motor is going, turning mechanics still work but the heat is not working at all. The temps are just falling, falling, falling.
I know the previous owner had just recently replaced the wafer. What the heck could the problem be?
I bought a GQF incubator off someone last month, they assured me that it worked and held temp. I know I shouldn't be SURPRISED that they lied but I am. I've always had great experiences buying off local people both in the chicken community and not.
It's a GQF Sportsman model, probably 20 years...
