    Tray vs Deep Litter

So I think what it comes down to is this: the main problem with prefab coops is that they put the nesting boxes and sleeping roosts right next to each other, and a run UNDERNEATH *facepalm*. In my current design that I've settled on, the roosting area is both open to the ground AND...

    Tray vs Deep Litter

The coop I initially started with was a kit off Amazon, and I found the tray extremely annoying. If there was anything in it it would get stuck, or smear poop on the top part of the slot that it slid out of. I eventually just left the tray out, and the chickens would just roost over the bare...

    Should I Tie Up a Chicken?/Oxytetracyclene

"Tangy," my Americauna, had an encounter early yesterday morning with a raccoon. My husband managed to scare it before it could do more damage than it did. It turned out that it tore open the thigh skin badly, and there are two tooth-sized cuts to the muscle. I trimmed the feathers, irrigated...

It bled remarkably little, which surprised me. There was some blood, but not much. Mostly is was just that the skin was open and separated from the thigh, and there were two "chunks" out of the muscle that looked nasty. I hope she doesn't get Tetanus!

Thanks! I will definitely get some. How often should I apply it? Will that be sufficient? Do you think I can forego a powdered antibiotic in her water, or should I do that to be safe, since it looks like the 'coon got its teeth into her muscle? Did I screw up by using Polysporin on the...

    Treatment for raccoon bite

Help! Stingrayg4's post has given me hope, but I don't know if it is misplaced. A raccoon took a sizeable chunk out of my Ameraucana before we scared it away. At first we couldn't see the wound, but I lifted her wing and suddenly could see space between the ribs and what looked like...
