Hi my runners are hatching today. I bought the eggs online so didn't see the parents. They came from a selection of white and green eggs.
Does duckling colours signify adult colours? I'm assuming you can't determine sex from colour when you haven't seen the parents.
Thanks
Sorry one more question... How do I know if my incubator humidity reads relative humidity or wet bulb? The humidity sensor and temperature sensor are as photographed below.
Morning everyone,
I've only ever hatched chicken eggs in the past, I've done plenty of research and would appreciate comments on my understanding. 🙏🙂
1. Upright Auto Turner vs Horizontal Manual
That's my incubator, forced air auto turning upright cradles. From research I'll run at 37.5'c and I...
Thank you for taking the time to write that. One of the eggs was oozing very slightly overnight which i believe may have ruined the hatch. Fingers crossed the remaining 2 out of 17 eggs survive!
Thanks yeah it looks like a saddle shaped air cell due to shipping damage. Somethings gone wrong as all 6 of my locally obtained eggs were developing until the 2 week mark, then 4 of them got a blood ring... Maybe bacteria? Thanks
Hiya
I've always kept chickens but I'm now looking for a duck Breed. It needs to be lovely natured, calm, not noisy, good egg layer and friendly and approachable.
I'm currently stuck between the Welsh Harlequins, khaki Campbell's, Indian runners, pekins or a cayuga.
I have a very large...
Thanks for both responses. I'll use my nose to check them.
As for determining quitters I might just leave them all in until lockdown where I'll do a water float test on the ones I can't see
I'll try post some photos later, maybe someone else will have a better idea.
Thanks
Hi I received some mail order maran eggs and white leghorn. They're on day 9 along with some of my own eggs. My own eggs are pale white eggs showing good veins and can see the embryo.
The other white mail order leghorn eggs are very pigmented and hard to see. The air cells are growing well...
The level of humidity in the incubator simply controls the rate of moisture loss within the egg. The higger the humidity, the slower the rate of moisture loss in the egg. The lower the humidity, the faster rate of moisture loss in the egg.
We need enough moisture to leave the egg over the...
That's the thing, I'm using my own humidity gauge and ignoring the incubator. But because the incubator incorrectly reads high, when I have humidity at 40% it thinks I'm lower than 30% and beeps all the time.
Surely there is a way to trick its humidity sensor or remove the beeper?
Hi, I'm using a 24 Chinese chicken egg incubator often referred to as the YZ-24a I've included an image below.
I've got the temperature set to 37.5 degrees c. However the humidity is difficult to control... I'd prefer to dry incubate at around 30% humidity but the bloody thing keeps beeping...
