    ***Husband Used Bactine!***

He said they barely bled at all. I asked him to go out and put Blu-kote on them, but didn't know if he should before finding out about the Bactine. He says my Roo is strutting around like normal and the hens aren't paying any attention to the exposed quick. (I'm at work.)

    ***Husband Used Bactine!***

My husband removed my rooster's spurs and sprayed the quick with Bactine. Bactine has lidocaine in it and I know you aren't supposed to use things like neosporin with pain relief on chicken. Should I panic now?!?!

What do you put in your nest boxes?

I don't like to use hay or straw because I'm afraid the hens will eat it and get an impacted crop. (I'm a worry-wart.) I have always used pine shavings and not only does it make the boxes smell lovely, it works very well as bedding material.

Is it humane to drown a cat because it attacked your livestock?

It is absolutely NOT HUMANE. It's disgusting! As has been suggested many times, remove the animal by taking it to a shelter or simply deal with it as you might any other predator, a quick bullet to the head. STILL...never an option for me personally. Yuck, now I'll feel sad and outraged all day.

Sorry, different poster than the original. I don't know why I posted here instead of on a new thread.

6 wk old BC Marans: Boys, girls or one of each?

I'm told these two Reds were hatched around the same time, (late February, early March.) They are both supposed to be pullets, however, I have a few doubts. Chicken A is smaller than Chicken B but its comb and wattles are more red and and the wattles seem larger. I'm sorry I don't have more...

I'm sorry, I should have clarified, she and the roo were free ranging in our yard.

    Coyote Attack

I don't really need any advice, I'm just heartsick. After losing one hen on Saturday to sour crop complications, two coyotes snatched the last of my original flock...the hen I've had the longest. Now my 2 year-old Roo and my four 5 month pullets are to forever remained locked in their 12' x 6'...

Help! How to make a safely make a chicken vomit?

I know this thread is a year old, but let me add DON'T TRY TO EMPTY A CHICKEN'S CROP. I stupidly tried it and ended up killing my hen when she aspirated.

Diarrhea: Mucousy, Green, White, Yellow and Lethargy in 2 yo Hen

I'm fairly certain there was an underlying illness. Her last few days of stools contained a lot of purely yellow liquid and she hadn't laid any eggs in 4 or 5 months, (except for a tiny fart egg.) NOWHERE in all the articles I read or videos I watched did it say to avoid trying to drain the...

Diarrhea: Mucousy, Green, White, Yellow and Lethargy in 2 yo Hen

I isolated her in our infirmary crate and kept her in the garage (with ventilation) last night. I observed her for hours and even after I left the garage, I stayed up researching until after 2:00. This morning she was unchanged when I moved the crate outside. I determined she had SOUR CROP...

Diarrhea: Mucousy, Green, White, Yellow and Lethargy in 2 yo Hen

Thank you for the information. My husband called and told me he washed her bum thoroughly and she's been given more electrolytes. I'm not sure anything is going to help at this point, but at any rate, she's not being culled yet. I hate to keep trying in vain, especially if she's suffering and...

Diarrhea: Mucousy, Green, White, Yellow and Lethargy in 2 yo Hen

***UPDATE IN COMMENTS*** I'm about to throw in the towel. Bear with me...in Spring 2017, I acquired three pullets. Of the three, one developed chronic diarrhea beginning approximately May 2018 and I tried everything but she died November 2018. A second started having diarrhea in maybe...
