    No sneezing or wheezing that I know of but will spend some time with the girls checking this out today. I have ~45 hens and only 1-2 egg per day with this abnormality so I don't think it is spreading? She's been laying the same for quite some time (mth or 2)....so hopefully not Infectious...

    Thanks for the link to misshappen eggs. Found description for what I have on another pg A 'check' around the 'waist' (love that term! ) is due to stress and/or repair while the egg is in the shell gland. now I know.....Thanks!

    The ridges run around the egg in the center...not lengthwise. It also looks like a crack running around at this ridge but it isn't weak like a crack would be. no eggs are not flat or deflated like balloon.

    I have one hen that lays a ridged egg every day....just noticed the one egg like that for quite awhile. Now it seems like another hen or two are having the same issue with their eggs? They get lay ration, boss, flax seed, flax meal, fish meal, grit... They are free range also so I'm pretty sure...

    ya I thought way too soon...but it really is lovely & warm for a change. Just thought maybe there was a chicken rule saying they always stick together LOL the new ones are 15-20 wks so a tad younger than our just started laying hens.

    Thanks everyone! I opted to not use the abundance of buds this time as I wasn't sure. Now that I've ck'd out the link provided....it does list Begonias as safe so next time we pick the buds I will give them a few to try.
