Does anyone know of any Hatcheries in the Vancouver/Lower Mainland Area? I don't seem to be able to find any birds other than the Cornish Giants available at this time.....Thanks....
I keep them in a 14 X 14 room, heated with lights.....they are actually quite active, but I contribute that to the warmth....The last 2 batches we had I kept them in a horse stall, which is a bit smaller....10 X 10...and they didn't do as well....I think it was to cold for them....I also learned...
Yup, warmth is one of the biggest things to have.....I also tend to add some vitamin B to the water supply, this seems to help stop the leg problems...I believe that when they are shipped, especially this time of year, it depleats the B levels....
Originally, I had 100 birds in one of my...
Thankyou, April....I'll zip out and get some right away....I have put some Poly-Tonine A Complex into their water, but maybe not enough....I'll increase it a bit....I put the last batch of birds onto this when I had the 5 or 6 with leg problems....and a couple of them got better, so, I did add...
They shouldn't be, the temperature is set at 95F and I also have 2 heat lamps should they need it. Most of the time they are away from the lamps...They seem content....eat, sleep and play....they seem to be a lively bunch....
The chicks, which are a week old on Thursday, had a cold start....but, I thought that after loosing a few that the rest would be ok....When I went into the growing room tonight, I saw that 3 looked dead....They were on their backs, feet up in the air.....I picked one up and it started chirping...
Adoptedbyachicken, what city do you live in?
The chicks are doing well....We recently built a 14 X 14 area for the birds....We insulated the roof and walls. The floor is wooden and a good 2" thick.....We installed an electric wall heater, 1750 watts, as well as our heat lamps....they are very...
Sorry, I'm not annoyed with the Hatchery, it's the policy of the Carrier with live cargo....
It seems senseless to me to go through the exercise of putting live animals on a plane when they know that there is a high percentage chance of doing a turn around....Then, waiting the length of time...
Hey Snapdragon.....your really close to us, here in sunny Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.....
We have a few Buff Op. and Brown Chickens.....and a new barn made for growing meat birds on a small scale....
I am trying hard to not be angry......
I ordered some birds from the Hatchery and they charge back for shipping etc.....they decided to send the birds by air.....problem is that when the birds flew overhead, the pilot circled and then proceeded back to Vancouver Airport.....So, the birds...
I'd like to hear about the rules, as well....In Canada we can legally keep 200 birds for our own consumption, after that, you need to have a permit or quota....so lots of rules...
Processing on the Island is either so much a bird or bird base rate and so much a lb. after that....
When we buy...
I had the pleasure of looking after a boxer for about a month....very loveable dogs, I must say, but I found that the gas from my dogs, shepherd, collie, whippet X, drove me out of the room a little quicker. It also didn't make a difference with type of food either....
So, not sure of the...
