I ended up going with MPC over Meyer because I liked their website better. It worked out well. I got exactly what I asked for, and all are still scratching about my yard to this day. I'll be going with MPC again next round since they sex silkies and I want to add a clucking tribble to my flock.

Thank you, I don't see any spur buds.
Thank you. It's too late in today to get a top-down photo, but I will endeavor to get one as soon as convenient. I do believe that the feathers near her tail do have that bifurcated shape to them. She doesn't have any of those stringy, pointy...
A while back I posted a picture of my Sumatra and the consensus seemed to be that it was a cockerel. The bird is nearly six months old at this point and has not crowed. Also, my Dominique's eggs are not fertilized. I'm holding out some hope here that this is a hen and not a rooster. What say...
Well, whatever it was, the Dominique appears to have gotten over it (hopefully I won't get surprised down the road). She started eating again yesterday and I spotted her drinking a lot today. She's acting like a chicken again instead of a zombie. She got to range with her flock all day and by...
Thank you for the link and reply.
I thought about Marek's because she had a loss of coordination at the same time, but she is vaccinated, so it seemed less likely to me than a vitamin deficiency + head that was stuck in a sideways position. Botulism is interesting since she wasn't able to lift...
I have a 16-week-old Dominique that developed wry neck. She stopped eating and drinking, and lost all of her energy, so I've been forcing all of the necessary food and vitamins down. She has improved significantly over the past week, can hold her head up again, and has barely any twist to her...
Small flock. I have one of each of the following: Appenzeller Spitzhauben, Sumatra, Fayoumi, Dominique, Welsummer, Easter Egger. I specifically got this variety for a colorful egg basket. I really like the look of the Appenzeller Spitzhauben and the Sumatra. I also really like (but have yet...
I went ahead and traumatized my MPC sumatra to try to get pictures of the green glimmer that was missing in my last picture. Here they are (one is in the shade, but you can still see where the feathers would glimmer). Hopefully they give an idea:
It wasn't sarcasm, and I'm not sure where I messed up in communicating my intent. I was trying to express sympathy for the plight of the breeders while agreeing with your experience that while our turning to hatcheries causes us to be frowned on by breeders, we may have carefully thought-out...
Well, that's a shame. That 10% chance is why I braced myself for the possibility of having to learn to butcher a chicken, though. Too bad it's one of my favorites. She's extremely quiet and always lurking under scrub or in the background, and that unusual personality really drew me to her...
This is my 11-week old Sumatra from My Pet Chicken. She does have a lovely green iridescence in the sunlight that I haven't caught on camera, and black legs. She has white toenails, which I suspect is a flaw, though I haven't read the APA standard, or know if it is something that they might...
This is a MPC Easter Egger. Probably the most adorable bird in the flock. Hopefully she lays blue or green. She is also in the top left corner of my icon, back when she was a young chick with fluffy cheeks.
I have a 7-week old sexed Easter Egger pullet from MPC that is frightening me in its development. The idea of a rooster wasn't terribly troublesome to me because I figured it would be an opportunity to learn how to process a chicken. However, when the chicks came, my four-year old almost...
I've only ordered from MyPetChicken, but this is the experience I had:
1. Do they treat their chicks well, and is transportation okay?
They shipped them in a cardboard box with air holes, a faux nest, and a heat pack. They went USPS express and arrived in two days to my post office in Texas...
I got six from MPC (Easter Egger, Welsummer, Dominique, Appenzeller Spitzhauben, Sumatra, Fayoumi). They hatched May 8th and arrived at my post office in Texas on May 10th. MPC included a heat pack in the box. I was so nervous after all the stories I heard of chicks dying in the mail that...
I've read this forum for a few months, but I finally signed up because I actually had something useful to contribute for once, hence my low post count.
I ordered from My Pet Chicken, which sources from Meyer as I understand it. The chicks hatched on 5/8 and arrived healthy. All are still...
