Thank you both, they were transferred to the other incubator within 3 hours. 2 had pipped last night but I can’t even see the pips now. Time will tell. Sods law, I’ve never had an issue that that incubator until this morning.
Hi,
Looking for advice or personal experiences please. My turkey eggs are day 28, 4 hatched yesterday. Unfortunately my incubator decided to blow the heating element this morning about 2 hours ago And drop to 27.5C. I’ve put 4 chicks in the brooder, but the last of the eggs feel cool, I’ve put...
Thank you for all of your replies, I’ll try and get some more photos tomorrow. I imagined they would show more boy traits by now or at least be crowing. But equally I hear buff Orpington hens take longer to mature.
We’ve got chicks! 4 little fluffs hatched out by their adoptive mum from a mix batch of eggs.
Dad is a Barnie,
Mums could be black rock or light Sussex or Brahma or white star. But who could be from who.
One with a darker beak I assume could be black rock.
We didn’t end up with a white egg...
I’ve had 4 housed together until around 16 weeks of age. The larger ones tried to mate with the smallest male all the time so I’m not sure how well males will do living together long term.
I know this post is donkeys years old but just wanted to say thank you! Did my first 3 Quail today. Not nearly as bad as you imagine it would be. All very calm and quick and the processing after was a doddle with this post. So once again thank you!!
Hi! The 3rd would be day one so start counting from there. Personally with the temperature I don’t change it at lockdown, some reduce it a little. But make sure you up the humidity.
I do have photos actually, these were taken on New Year’s Day so around 7 weeks old. At the moment feathers look hennish to me, aka no pointy feathers in tail or on neck. These are the only 2 to hatch so I’m hoping I have at least 1 Hen!!
My beautiful 12 week bcm x Araucana chicks! I’m hoping they keep looking like Hens but I’m no expert on this x breed or comb type! Hoping for eggs in a couple of months! Need to add another colour to my egg basket!!
I have 3 batches of coturnix eggs in the incubator from different groups. I’ll separate them in the incubator at hatch time but how can I “mark” them so I know who are who in the brooder. Thank you!
Thank you for your replies. Yes it does get trampled on fairly but it doesn’t help itself by purposely running under their bellies! I don’t particularly see it eating but it must be if it’s here 4 days later. This was an assisted hatch chick so maybe that could be one of the reasons.
Thank you, he seems to be a bit livelier today. Here is a photo of him with another button chick and a coturnix. You can definitely see the size difference when compared to the other button.
I’ve got a little button chick, 4 days old, who is so tiny and doesn’t seem to be growing. His siblings are getting lovely and big and running around everywhere. This little titch though drinks plenty, has a peck around the food occasionally and sleeps lots! It has the occasional spurt of energy...
